A voice whispered to her.
For you are worth, my love, you are my black sheep, my outlier. Be carful Black Sheep. This world isn't filled with kindness or truth. You either play it or fall victim to the thing they call justice.
Jane was in that same white room she had left from a little over two days ago. It was cleaner, crisper white than before and so was her usual clothing.
Why not come back home to me where it's safe.
She recognized the voice, Nicholas. Everything was wrong, Jane knew this but it didn't feel irregular.
Looking down she saw the irregular. Her hands trembled slightly. What caused her to fear something that wasn't there?
Just, come out to play my little lamb. Play with me. Our regular spot, date night, I assure you it'll be worth your time.
Jane gave a sly chuckle. "Haven't changed a bit."
Well, neither have you my dear. I know what you're contemplating. I do not own that leach of a person, that one's purely Phantom. Anyway, I have a few things that you might be interested in.
"At date night, thank you for the incentive Nate." Jane sounded aggravated by now. "You know my color."
Her eyes shot open and darted to the side. She wasn't in a dream anymore. This was in fact the same room before she drifted off to sleep. There was someone else though changing her dressing on her arms.
Her hair was a neon pink that came to her shoulders. "Didn't mean to wake you, but if you want these wounds to heal we have to keep them clean."
"I can do that. I'm not helpless." Jane stared blandly. "Who might you be?" Instantly recognized the coloration from when she was in Phantom during her grand escape.
"Mae, I keep everything in order here and make sure we can still operate." She finished wrapping both arms quickly. "How's the pain on a scale of 1 to 10?"
"0, nothing hurts." A light was shined through both of her eyes.
Mae looked confused. "Do you feel different, and tingling or weakness?"
"No." Jane inhaled and exhaled slowly. "So, what are you going to do with me?"
Mae wrote as she spoke. "Once you feel up to it, we'll have a small conference on that very topic."
"Let me rephrase my question. Will I see Moonlight again?"
"We can go outside now if you like to." Mae sat down the papers on a chair in the corner before standing at the doorway. "If you can walk down the hall."
Jane almost laughed. She shifted her weight so that her legs dangled from the edge of the bed. Sliding off she made sure her balance wasn't off before walking normally to Mae.
"Like I said, nothing hurts." Jane said brushing off the assumption. "Lead the way."
Mae looked at her for a while before deciding to walk. Jane kept up with Mae's pace with ease. Each step bounced against the walls as the pair walked.
Once Mae swung open the door Jane could see on top of the building. The sky was a pure cyan that looked over deep greens. Brown speckled along with shades of yellow. She gazed upwards taking in the heat from the sun. Jane let out a long sigh of relief.
"Where will that conference take place?" She still looked at the scenery.
"In Washington, we have to get you checked out by feds soon. You'll stay with them."
Jane could hear the crackling coming from her skin. The burning pain that crept from her spine. Her blood wanted to boil out of her eyes.
She felt the position coat her tongue like a bullet ready to fire. " I will make Phantom burn." A slight chuckle came from Jane as she spun around to see Mae. "The mind is a powerful thing yet it's so weak. Like a flower, so many things affect its being."
