She grabbed the handle of the circular object with thin toothpicks on one side and ran it through her raven hair. Jane picked up the pair of blades held by a bolt while the other hand clustered a section of her hair. Snipping at the dangling strained until satisfied enough to apply gel. No, she wasn't going anywhere but it felt better to have less alluring look at towards the two horns on her head. She knew what they thought, indeed it was unusual to see someone with the characteristics of a demon.
It had been almost 2 months since Nick had given her that suit. He had been radio dead since then, not a single hint of his presence anywhere.
Jane glanced at the analog clock that read 4:27. The sky just outside was still dotted with flashlights as she coiled cloth around her knuckles and arms. Hour upon hours Jane had spent her time dodging, hitting, and refining her powers in their training room.
She was surprised when they let her and Herring stay here. Iwix tended to skulk around hoping to catch something incriminating against them like a hound searching for a small fox.
The round objects blurred by her as she twisted and turned while gaining ground. There wasn't a hint of blue nor black in her eyes, only the brittle ghost of silver. Her hands seemingly guided the spheres past her along with her arms weaving between them. She felt the ripples streaking past her, similar to a pulse. Her heels tapped the ground in recognizable tempo. Each pause was marked with it while she glided to the mechanism. She placed her thumb on it while spreading the rest of her fingers like grabbing an imaginary globe.
The room was filled with a blue haze as tiny parts from the device were scattered then quickly reassembled. All of the blue fog was sucked back along with the screws and bolts.her eyes were the same white as before but more controlled and condensed.
Jane felt the energy flowing through her as natural as wind blowing through trees. Salty sweat dripped from her face as she finished the last bit of assembling. Instantly the machine threw the balls with greater force and speed than before. Loosing track of time, Jane could see the door slide open as she had just moved out of the path of multiple spheres. Multiple thuds came from someone. She raced to efficiently shut it off.
"What was that?" A small chuckle escaped from the voice belonging to Mae. "I was going to ask if you wanted some help, looks like I'm the one that needs it though." She laughed.
Mae always had lurked around when she had seen her train. It was like she wanted to see some big secret, as though that was going to happen.
"Maybe next time you won't skulk around me all the time." Jane reaches out a hand to help her.
"Thanks, why are you up so early? It's 5 in the morning." She grabbed it and was pulled from the floor.
"Couldn't sleep." Jane said quietly while letting go of Mae's hand.
"If you told us-"
Jane cut her off. "You've asked a thousand times and my answer is still the same. We're playing to defeat them for good, making mistakes will cause them only to grow."
"You haven't talked much about anything other than that since you've got here." May sounded almost annoyed.
"What do you want to know? I mean, you know what happened at Phantom."
"But how do you really feel?"
Jane passed her while walking down the hall. "I'm getting breakfast because I feel hungry."
