Chapter 25

By the time Zayn and co reached the hospital Jake's family were already with Niall and had told him about Jake. Thankfully, he was strong enough to take the news in and Jake's family were a religious bunch and believed things happen for a reason and prayed for Niall's recovery giving him love before leaving with heavy hearts and promise to get in touch about the funeral. Zayn felt like he was closing a book, having read the last chapter. Jake, his first ever boyfriend was no longer, he may not have loved him like Jake wanted but he did love him as a person. Jake was a true gentleman brought up well and made it easier for them to stay friends. It's just a shame him and Louis never got a real chance in love. But life has always been full of surprises..

"Will you be okay?"

"I will be, but it sucks doesn't it? Just as I was ready to take the relationship a step further and then this. You never know what you got.."

"...Till you lose it. You haven't quite lost him, there's a piece of Jake inside of you so you got that.."

"More like a reminder of what could have been"

"You never meant to hurt him though when you pressed pause, isn't it? You wanted to find yourself, love yourself before you can love someone else. If anything that's an admirable thing to do"

"You are using a lot of big words, Mr Malik. When did you become so clever? daytime TV has been good on you then"

"Mr Styles Lou, but what can I say, life's been throwing lemons at someone who know how to suck" Zayn joked..

"We shouldn't be joking like that after what happened today..and I'm saying this not because I'm right up your arse its always been the other way around with us.." Louis ducked when Zayn pretended to punch him..

"Stop it.."

"But seriously, Zee. Anne was out of line and I said that to her when you left..and I'm mad at Harry for not sticking up for you. He knows how much you and Niall are closer than any of us lately actually and more of a best friend than him.."

"Thanks Lou, but I do understand. I spoke to my mom afterwards and she told me Anne is just hurting and she loves me..and I know that's true but what she said did hurt. It kinda made me wonder if maybe she was speaking Harry's words.."

"What do you mean, Harry's words?"

"I don't know, it's just..what if that's something Harry said to her, we both know he tells her everything, she probably knows how many times we've had sex before Harry got me pregnant"

"Eww..disgusting thoughts Zee, but you may be right. Harry would have said something for her to just jump on you like that...which is why I took an uber to the hospital and made him pay for it. I was not ready to be in the same car with his fake ass but wanted him to feel my wrath" Zayn just shook his head laughing..

"I love you Lou for being there for me, and just know I'm a phone call away.."

"I'm sure your husband will have a say about that, using your unlimited minutes Facetiming me. Good luck on that one mate.."

"I am sorry about Jake.."

"Me too, life sucks, huh? I wished we cleared things before this though"

"The thing about fate Lou is, it's meant to be and there's nothing we can do about it"

"Still unfair"

"Nothing about this is fair..and what's worst Niall not telling us he'd separated for six months with Selena and been faking it for our own benefit.." Zayn said, not believing that. He'd tried to contact Niall's other half, didn't even got a chance to say what he was calling about when an irate Selena had shut him down upset about Niall bailing out on their appointment with a counsellor to chase after Gemma. And she went on venting about their separation unaware Niall hadn't told them.
