"Are you sure about this?" Kandi asked as she watched me pack for my adventure. She sat on the side of my bed, a skeptical look on her face, not really wanting me to go, but she wasn't going to admit that out loud.
"Yes, Kandi. I want to live a little. I was stuck in the office all the time." she sighed.
"I don't know. This whole mother buying you out thing is really bothering me, B. I mean, something else had to happen or we're not getting the entire story. Because, this doesn't make sense." I shrugged. I knew it didn't make sense. It didn't make sense from when Tommy came over to my apartment last week, explaining what had happened to me. But I was far too frustrated to even want to understand what happened or to reverse the situation. I mean, there was no real reason why someone would want to buy out a mostly cosmetic company but to each it's own. I didn't feel like sorting out the details, that's what I hired people for.
"I know, I know. But, these next couple of weeks, I just want to relax. Not think about my troubles or anything that would cause me stress. I deserve it. Do you know when's the last time I been on a vacation?"
"Ten years ago." she muttered. I nodded.
"Right. I never catch a break and even though this break is unnerving and weird, I'm going to let everything settle on it's own while I get my life together and relax." I whispered. "My feet hurt, I am tired all of the time, I wasn't really happy with anything, except for certain parts of the company, but I need a break. Can I just have it, please?"
Kandi and I were silent for a couple of seconds before Kandi sighed. "You sure you have someone you trust looking into it?" I tilted my head to the side and shrugged.
"I mean, we haven't had any issues with each other lately."
"Are you serious? Tommy? Really?" I looked at Kandi with a look of slight frustration.
"Look, I know we had our issues in the past but he was only one that seemed to hear about what happened and decided to speak to me first about it. I would have been completely blind-sided if I walked into that meeting Monday and realized everything I worked for was gone."
"But, it just seems weird that Tommy would know anything about that. I mean, he was a shareholder too, but you said he was in Virginia with you. Right? Since it was a part of his imprint, slightly." All of Kandi's words went right over my head but I knew she didn't trust Tommy, so I was about to do anything to make her happy, just so I can have my peace while I'm away.
"If you don't trust him, you do it. You look into it. I'll pay double your salary." Kandi's eyes lit up.
"What?"
"You clearly don't trust Tommy so I'm giving you an option. Either do your own little research and find out what needs to be found out, or, just let Tommy do it." Kandi stared at me.
"Are you sure you can afford it?" she asked softly, being my best friend and concerned employee. I nodded, smiling as I placed the last piece of clothing I wanted to take with me, in the suitcase.
