A few days have gone past and Brennen has changed his attitude completely towards me. He no longer bullies me in school and he checks up on me outside of school. He told me to message him whenever I feel like cutting but I'm not sure if we're quite there yet.
I've been pretty clean so far. Normally I do 3-4 cuts per day but now I haven't touched my arm since Brennen saw them.
Maybe it's because someone actually cares. Or maybe it could be because my father wasn't here. He still hasn't come back. I'm not worried though, he always does this. Sometimes, he'll disappear for a month and then come back and it'll go back to normal: alcohol and violence. What's not to love?A couple hours had past and I was downstairs, scrolling on my phone, when I heard the front door slam against the wall from being violently opened.
Crap.
I rolled my eyes and sighed. Yay. He's back. I gripped my phone in my hand and went to head upstairs.
Dad: oi you little shit head
I turned to face him.
Dad: leaving so soon?
I ignored him and continued up the stairs. I can't deal with his sarcasm right now.
Once I got to my room, I started messaging Brennen.C: hey
B: Hey. Everything okay?
C: no, not really. Are you free right now?
B: yeah, wassup?
C: wanna hang? Need to get out of this house
B: sure, gimme five and meet at Tender Greens.
C: okayI put my phone on my bed and got ready to meet Brennen. I walked downstairs and saw my father passed out on the chair again, beer bottle in hand. I shook my head and walked out of the house.
Brennen and I conveniently got there at the same time and so we went into Tender Greens to get food. I could tell he was tempted to ask me what was going on. Maybe he was worried it'll trigger me?Colby: what's wrong?
Brennen: what? Nothing
Colby: you wanna know why I asked to meet, don't you?
Brennen: Yeah, I do
Colby: there's nothing to it really. My father came home, reeking of alcohol and I couldn't be asked to be in the same house with him.
Brennen: okay that's fair
Colby: yeah
I looked down and ate some more food.
Brennen: have you.. you know?
He whispered, hesitantly.
Colby: no. Not since we talked
Which was actually surprising. Still can't get over how long I'm lasting.
Brennen: good
He smiled and I smiled back, both as awkward as each other.
We finished our food and left Tender Greens as Brennen turned to me.
Brennen: I actually have somewhere to show you
Colby: uhhh...
Brennen: it's okay, it's good
He laughed.
Colby: okay?
Brennen: follow meAbout 10 minutes had past and we finally arrived where he wanted to show me.
It was an abandoned building, full of graffiti.
Colby: woah
Brennen laughed again.
Brennen: I knew you would like it.
I actually do. I've always been fascinated with this sort of stuff. But, how'd he know?We spoke for a couple hours, sitting in the second floor in the abandoned building, about pretty much anything.
Colby: it's getting late, we should probably head home. I got up and felt Brennen's hand on my arm.
Brennen: I- I actually need to tell you something
He got up to face me.
Colby: what's up?
Brennen: so, I didn't only show you here to get to know you better, I thought here would be a good place to tell you something. My biggest secret.
I didn't want to tell you at the beginning, because of what I found out, but now...I could tell he was nervous.
Colby: what is it?
He took a deep breath and stared in my eyes.
Brennen: Colby.. I'm-
