Brennen: basically, when a vampire turns 18, they find out who their mate is. It's basically when two people are bonded and are 'soulmates' but the bond is stronger.

Brennen: It's normally two vampires or supernatural beings. It's extremely rare for a supernatural being and a human. Let alone a human and a vampire. It's one of the most rare cases ever. Which, is why it created so much drama in the community when people found out.
Colby: what do you mean 'drama?' What happened?
Brennen: people were talking about it and it spread to higher up.
Colby: higher up?
Brennen: yeah. Being a vampire is more then just doing what we want. There's levels of power. I'm in one of the few levels at the top but I'm not at the very top, which means that what I do, still has consequences. Even if they are less then others.
Colby: I- I can't wrap my head around it.
Brennen: I know. It's a lot to handle.
I looked away and thought about everything he told me. This changes everything. I could see in his face that there was more that he wasn't telling me. It seemed like he was decided on telling me or not. I shrugged it off and tried processing what he told me when he spoke again.
Brennen: also, one more thing..
I looked back at him. He looked at me, a slight smirk creeping across his face, disappearing as soon as it appeared.
Brennen: you're officially a target
