Part nine

Brennen: you're officially a target
Colby: what?

Almost as if it was on cue, a random guy, all muscle, knocked down the door. Brennen turned to see him and pushed me out of the way. As he did, I fell to the ground and hit my head. Hard. In front, Brennen and the guy were fighting, knocking tables and chairs over as they did so. A table fell right in front of me as Brennen and the guy kept fighting. I went to get yo but felt a sharp pain where I hit my head. I lifted my hand up to my head and noticed I was bleeding.
Shit.
I looked up in worry as I watched Brennen break a leg off of the table and drive it through the guy's chest. He turned to look at me and all colour drained from his face. His eyes glowed red and his fangs showed. I moved backwards as Brennen marched forward, moving everything out of the way, growling at me. He caught up to me and grabbed my hair and yanked me upwards, forcing me to stand.
As I did, Brennen wrapped his arm around my neck and forced my head to the side.
Colby: Brennen stop
I stuttered out, his arm crushing my throat. I felt his breath on my neck and his fangs brushed against my skin. I winced in pain as Brennen's fangs pierced my neck. I constantly called out, trying to get him to stop but it was no use. I felt the blood draining from my body as my vision blurred. I tried one more time and whacked him in the head, causing him to fall backwards, letting go of the grip he had. I fell to the ground, holding my throat as I gasped for air. Brennen shook himself and turned to face me. His eyes were his normal brown and he froze when he saw me.
Brennen: Colby?
He must of seen the fear in my eyes as he brought his hand to his mouth and back to in front of his eyes. He saw the blood from his mouth and chin. My blood.
Brennen: Colby, I am so sorry
He started walking over to me but I scooted away from him, staying silent and holding my neck.
He looked down and sighed. He turned away from me and started walking towards the door.
Colby: No
Brennen turned back around to face me, face full of confusion.
Colby: you're not going anywhere until you tell me what the fuck is going on
I stood up and walked over to the bathroom. Brennen followed.
I grabbed the first aid kit that I normally use for my cuts. Brennen was standing next to me when I looked at him.
Brennen: what?
Colby: if I remove my hand, are you going to kill me?
Brennen: of course not
Colby: don't act so hurt. Not like you didn't just make me dinner or anything. I looked away from him and opened the first aid kit as he looked at the ground.
I cleaned my neck and bandaged it up while Brennen watched. A part of me was happy he was by my side but another part of me was terrified. It never hit me before how dangerous he actually is. He could kill me at any second and I wouldn't be able to put up a fight.
I glanced at him and he looked back up at me. I quickly looked back away from him.
Colby: so are you going to explain?
Brennen sighed and I was putting the first aid kit away.
Brennen: fine.
I turned to look at him.
Brennen: as you know, vampires are given a mate since birth and you find out who it is when you're 18. Well, humans and vampires mating is extremely rare. It's only ever happened one other time and that was to one of the most powerful vampires in history. When the vampire finds out who their mate is, they become attached emotionally. Meaning I can sense when you're being hurt and when something's not right. You can do the same for me. A human-vampire mating throws everything off balance as it gives them a tremendous amount of power. Mainly the human. Because you're human, you're more vulnerable then I am. So the spirits give you, protection, in a way.
Colby: what do you mean protection?
Brennen: they give you an ability. One that will help you survive the supernatural world so your not completely vulnerable. No one knows what it is. It's dependent on the person. Since the last human-vampire mating didn't end so well, vampires have become terrified because of us. Now the majority knows and there's even a reward to kill you.
Colby: but why?
Brennen: they're worried history will repeat itself. I don't even know the full story. All I know is that vampires were almost wiped out. But, the lightwoods did seem a bit funny when they found out it was you. And not because you're a human. I think it was something else.
Colby: Lightwoods?
Brennen: they're one of the higher up families.
Colby: why do you think it is then?
Brennen: I don't know. But there's definitely something they're hiding.
I looked down and tried thinking about everything he told me. Brennen kept telling me more about why everything is a big deal about me, the supernatural world and why people want to kill me but I just kept thinking about how unreal all of this is. I'm expecting to just wake up and all this to be a dream. I discreetly pitched myself while Brennen was talking. Nothing.
This was real.
And now I am a part of it.
