Chapter 8
“Hey, welcome!” I could hear Jeff greet the people at the door.
My guess was Sophie and Malcolm, since the two of them always arrived early. Not weird when the little boy had a huge crush on Lilly.
I could hear Sophie starting to talk to Emily in the kitchen right across from my room, while Malcolm immediately started to run around. That little guy had so much energy.
It was Christmas day, and Jeff had decided to invite everyone to his apartment for the celebration. Just like on Thanksgiving. I was sure it would be a great night.
I had dressed up for tonight, too.
I was wearing a black and white dress. It was a strapless dress and a bit tight over my chest, where the dress was white. From underneath my chest the dress flowed a bit more loosely. It reached about mid-thigh.
Sophie had bought it for me on our last shopping trip with Emily. She had loved it and said it would look gorgeous on me. Of course she was right. Sophie was like a fashion guru.
So, I walked out of my room, completely content with my looks.
I saw Sophie and Emily in the kitchen, preparing the last of dinner. I decided to let them and rather join the others in the living room.
Bacon was lying in his usual spot at the couch; his head was buried under a pillow.
Lilly was sitting in one of the arm chair, Malcolm on the floor beside her. Personally, I think she would use him once she realized that the little kid would do anything for her. Sure, right now she was irritated at him. But she would realize that even as a four year old kid, you would want to please your crush. It was just a matter of weeks until Malcolm was her personal slave.
Jeff and Dave were sitting on the table, chatting with each other.
I glanced up at the clock to see it was still fifteen minutes until the rest would arrive, so I walked over to my father and uncle and sat down with them.
“Amber, you look beautiful, like always,” Jeff complimented me once he realized I was standing beside him.
“Thanks, Jeff,” I said with a smile.
Dave patted the seat beside him so I chose that one.
Immediately, the two men got caught up in a new conversation. I didn’t really pay attention, but I hear the words ‘excellent goal’ and ‘fast players’ so I assumed they were busy arguing over the best hockey team again.
Yeah, they were both obsessed with hockey, something I noticed quite often ever since I arrived here. The two would catch every hockey game they could, whether they cheered on the team or not.
I didn’t have to sit long before the doorbell rang again. I figured that I should go get it, since I knew Emily was busily working in the kitchen.
I walked over to the door and opened it. Caleb, Mary, Charles and Chuck stood in the doorway. The three guys were dressed in dark suits, while Mary was wearing a figure forming red dress. It looked gorgeous.
Mary gave me a hug before she hurried into the kitchen to assist Emily and Sophie.
“Caleb!” Dave called from the dining table. “Come over here and tell Jeff here what hockey team is best!”
Yeah, my two uncles had bonded over their fondness for the same hockey team. It was actually quite funny to hear the two off them gang up on Jeff. It usually ended in loud, playful arguments, until the three women came to break it off.
