Chapter 7

“So how is everything back there?” I asked the two girls in front of me when we had released each other.

April smiled brightly at me.

“Except for the fact that we miss you, it’s great,” she told me.

“I’ll tell you a secret,” April started, leaning closer to me, and further away from Lynn. “Lynn hasn’t had a boyfriend in over six months. Not even a date.”

I gaped surprised at my friend, while she sent April a glare.

Lynn was known for having a new boyfriend at least twice a month. It’s like she couldn’t live without the support of a boyfriend beside her.

“What?” Lynn snapped when she noticed my expression. “It’s not that weird, alright?”

I couldn’t even answer. The thought of her not having a boyfriend had shocked me beyond belief.

“I don’t need a boyfriend now that I have my brother who is there for me,” Lynn said, a bit happy.

If what April had told me had shocked me, this made me completely freeze up in astonishment.

When I left, the twins could barely stand to be in the same room as each other. And now they are so close that Lynn doesn’t need a boyfriend? This is just crazy.

I’m sure Lynn noticed my shock, because in that minute, she turned to me with a small smile on her face. “We patched things up again after you left. We were both pretty sad, and April and I weren’t talking at the moment, so we went to each other, and we just grew closer, I guess,” she explained softly.

Well, I’m glad my absence was to some use at least.

“It was thanks to him we knew where to search for you. He gave us the address to the gallery, and it was that we were looking for right now,” April said.

“We just couldn’t find it. New York confuses me,” Lynn laughed a little, but neither April nor I joined in.

We just sat there in silence. I honestly didn’t know what to say. Had they been looking for me? Had Nate wanted them to find me?

“He really misses you, you know,” Lynn said quietly a few minutes later.

My eyes snapped up to meet hers. What had she just said?

“He doesn’t like to admit it, but I know it tears him apart every time he thinks of you. Which is often, if I may say,” Lynn told me.

“Doesn’t he have a girlfriend?” I asked.

Wait, stupid, I told myself.

I had just sounded like a jealous girlfriend.

Which I’m not.

But now that I’ve mentioned it, he did have a girlfriend the last time I had seen him.

The blonde one from the park.

“No,” Lynn said with a confused look on her face. She obviously didn’t know who I was talking about.

“Well, there was this one girl, but he used it to get over you. Only two days after you left he broke up with her, though. I think he realized he would never get over you,” Lynn told me sadly.

Never get over me.

No, I tried to convince myself.

Lynn is lying to me. He was over me, and he did not want anything to do with me.
