Chapter 3

I was incredibly tired as I made my way up to the third floor in Jeff’s building. Amelia, Sammy and Eva were such sweet girls. The only downside was that, Amelia reminded me of April. That was a sad thought, since it meant forgetting about my fight with my two best friends would be incredibly hard.

Eva had hung around me all day. She would hook her arm around mine and drag me places, excited to show me everything her school had to offer.

Connor and Jared were also nice. I actually had the two of them in all my last three classes, something I was extremely grateful for.

I didn’t see Isaac for the rest of the day, until I was walking to my car, ready to leave school. He had ditched fifth period on my first day. Not that it mattered, since I had both Connor and Jared in that class.

I had learned that Eva was just a sophomore, while Amelia was a junior. The rest of the people I had met were seniors, like me.

Isaac had, of course, apologized all the way to the gallery, where he had work after school.

I couldn’t be bother to stick around down there. I was seriously exhausted. My left ear was buzzing after all the talking Eva had done since lunch, and all I wanted was to relax. It wasn’t shift at the gallery anyway.

Jeff was sitting on the wall he called his office when I walked in.

“Hey, Amber!” he called when he heard the door close behind me.

“How did you know it was me?” I asked as I walked closer to where he was sitting.

“Emily and Dave went to pick up Lilly, and when Lilly comes over she always runs over to me,” Jeff said, spinning around in his chair to face me.

“How was the first day?” he asked.

“Tiresome,” I told him as I passed him on the way to my bedroom.

“I’m going to take a nap,” I said as I closed my bedroom door shut behind me.

If all days was going to be like this for the rest of the year, I don’t know if I will survive.

I stood with my lunch tray in hand, looking for a table I could sit at. Isaac had offered a seat at his table, but after the disastrous result yesterday, I decided to spare my poor lunch and find somewhere else to sit.

I could, of course, have gone to sit with Connor and Sammy, of I could find them, that is. And if you haven’t guessed yet, I didn’t know where they were.

“AMBER! HERE! COME HERE! SIT WITH ME!” Eva’s loud voice broke over the chatter of the rest of the school.

I felt my cheeks heat up as several eyes turn to me and eyes me in disdain. Yeah, people did not like me around here.

Nevertheless, I stalked towards Eva where she was sitting with Jared and Amelia.

“Hey guys,” I said with a small smile.

“Hey, Amber!” Eva cried, flinging herself over the table as she caught me in a hug.

“Eva, please let Amber go. You’re scaring her,” Jared stated, prying on his sister’s fingers.

“I am not!” Eva exclaimed in surprise. Still, she let go of me and sat down in her seat, pouting to herself.

I almost giggled at her, but Jared elbowed me in my stomach, shooting me a wary look.

“So, how was your day yesterday?” Jared questioned with a grin.

I had a suspicion that he asked to get his attention of his sulky sister.
