Chapter 2
“I can’t do it,” I said, staring in fright out the window of my car.
Isaac placed a comforting hand on my shoulder.
“Of course you can,” he said.
“I can’t!” I yelled.
“Yes!”
“No!”
“Yes!”
“No!”¨
“Yes!”
“No. It’s so big!” I exclaimed, not breaking my gaze.
“Come on, Amber. It’s not,” Isaac argued.
“Maybe not to you, but this is giant in comparison to my last!” I cried in panic.
“Amber…” Isaac said, and then waited until I had turned my head to look at him. “It’s just a school. It’s not a big deal. You met a few of these people at that New Year’s Eve part last year, remember?”
“Yeah, like they remember me now,” I scoffed.
Although I promised to call some of the girls I met there last winter, it kind of disappeared from my mind with everything else going on.
“They do!” Isaac argued. “You just need to go in and get this over with. Now get out of the car.” He demanded.
I took one last glance at the school. I was so deep in thought I didn’t notice that Isaac had gone out of the car until he opened my car door.
“Come on, Amber. We need to go now,” Isaac demanded.
A thousand thoughts ran through my mind at that very moment. What if they don’t like me? What if they think I’m dumb? What if everyone has already created an agenda against me, because I didn’t call any of the girls as I promised?
No, Amber! I told myself firmly.
They will like you. No one has created an agenda against you.
I took a deep breath before I stepped out of the car and followed after Isaac as he led me to the front entrance.
Seriously, this school was big. Huge, even. I had no idea how I would get around here without any help. Luckily I had Isaac. I trusted him in showing me the way to the office at least.
Not that it was hard to find. It was literally the first thing I saw when I was done admiring the giant hall.
“I’ll wait here for you, alright?” Isaac asked me.
I nodded and watched as Isaac pointed in the direction of the office.
“You’re going that way,” Isaac told me like I was four.
“Thanks Captain Obvious,” I answered.
As if the giant sign was not a dead give-away.
Isaac sent me a grin as he pushed me towards the office.
We had gotten to school extra early, just so Isaac could show me a bit around before it got to crowded. He said it was best to come at least half an hour earlier the first few days, just to make sure I don’t get lost.
Knowing me, that was fully possible.
I pushed those thoughts to the back of my mind as I opened the door that led to the office. The room was pretty simple, actually. Just a few chairs against the wall next to a door that said principal, and a desk with a computer and lots of files. Behind the desk there was a woman in her late thirties. The secretary, I assumed. Behind her, there was a giant copy machine, and just by the door there was a giant pot plant.
