On September 1st, my parents drop me off at King's Cross Station as usual. I find a compartment to myself and a few minutes later, Hermione joins me. When the train has one minute before it leaves, we are joined by Fred, George, Lee, and Ginny. "Good, you're here" I say when I see Fred. I stand up and manage to get my Nimbus 2000 out of my trunk. "What are you doing with that?" Hermione, who is reading Voyages with Vampires, asks. I hand it to Fred. "My parents got me a Nimbus 2001, so I decided that the best thing to do is give it to someone else on the Gryffindor team" I say. "Can we see the Nimbus 2001?" George asks. I nod and pull it out as well and hand it to them. Then, I notice something. The train's moving.
"Where's Harry and Ron?" I ask. "Maybe they are in a different compartment" Lee suggests. "I'll go look for them" I decide. I do just that. I leave the compartment and go down the train, looking in different compartments for them. I run into many students I know. Seamus Finnigan, Dean Thomas, the other girls I share my dorm with. Unfortunately, I run into Draco's gang. "Well, well, well, look who it is" Malfoy says. I try to ignore him, but Pansy Parkinson sticks her arm out in front of me. "Cullen, Draco is talking to you" she snaps at me. "Yes, I realize that. I just don't want to waste my time talking to an asshat like that" I say. She glares at me. "You're in luck then. We don't want to be in your presence for too long either. We just thought we would enlighten you on where Potty and the Weasel are" Malfoy says. Before I can respond, however, Draco shoves a newspaper clipping in my face. "You keep it. I suspect that you don't get the Daily Prophet with the muggles you live with" Malfoy says and stalks off. I look down at the title and it says FLYING FORD ANGLIA MYSTIFIES MUGGLES. I go back to our compartment.
"Did you find Harry and Ron?" Hermione asks. I notice that the boys put my broom back in my trunk and are now playing with the fireworks. "Listen to this" I say, and I read, "FLYING FORD ANGLIA MYSTIFIES MUGGLES. Two muggles in London, convinced they saw an old car flying over the Post Office tower... at noon in Norfolk, Mrs. Hetty Bayliss, while hanging out her washing... Mr. Angus Fleet, of Peebles, reported to police... six or seven muggles in all" I say. "No way!" says Fred enviously. "They are going to have some explaining to do at Hogwarts" says George. Hermione, however, looks skeptical. "There's no way they are taking that flying car to Hogwarts. That's extremely dangerous" she says. "That hasn't stopped them from doing dangerous stuff before. Besides, I couldn't find them in any of the compartments" I say. Her brow furrows. "I'm going to go look for them" she says and leaves the compartment.
Hermione doesn't come back to the compartment for the rest of the train ride and neither do Harry and Ron. As for me, I watch Fred and George set of their fireworks. When they get bored with that, they talk about a prank on the Slytherins while I read Holidays with Hags - as I've finished all the other books. Finally, when I finish Holidays with Hags, it's time to put on our uniforms and get off the Hogwarts Express. When I leave the train, I catch up with Hermione. "Still no Harry and Ron" I say as we walk up the path to the horseless carriages. I look up into the sky to see if I can spot the Ford Anglia.
"They definitely weren't on the train. Harry should have enough sense to use Hedwig to send an owl to Professor Dumbledore telling him that they missed the train. That's probably what he did" Hermione says as we climb into one of the carriages. "Common sense isn't exactly their strong suit" I point out. She grimaces, acknowledging my point. We don't talk about Harry or Ron for the rest of the carriage ride. We talk about classes and what we are expecting from Gilderoy Lockhart. She doesn't like how I don't expect much from him. "His books, although interesting, aren't educational. It's just facts about him. If all he can talk about is him, how good of a teacher can he really be?" I ask. "He's proud. Is that such a bad thing?" Hermione asks. I cock an eyebrow but don't say anything.
When we get to the Great Hall, we make our way to the Gryffindor table. There's a bunch of talking among the students. "I wonder where Snape went to" I ask Hermione, gesturing to his chair. "Maybe he got sacked" says Fred enthusiastically. "No. We're not that lucky" I say, making Fred chuckle. While sitting at the Gryffindor table and talking to Hermione, I can't help but glance at Fred from time to time. He was pretty decent looking last year but this year he is really attractive. He's taller this year, and he's more toned and defined to. His voice is deeper. The best part is, he's still sweet. The complete package. We were exchanging letters all summer but now that we are together in person again, the light flirting I put in the letters seem to take new meaning. They're more passionate somehow. The responses I got to, being called beautiful and smart and sweet are fuelling my not-so-recent crush on him. Truth be told, ever since I joined the Quidditch team, I developed a crush on him, but its grown since then. I wonder if there's a chance he could feel the same way about me? He is two years older than me... "Chloe, what are you staring at, you're going to miss the sorting" Hermione says. Fred briefly glances at me - making me go slightly pink - and back up at the front of the room. When I look up, I realize the sorting ceremony is about to start. I even missed the song, that's how distracted I was. Why is Professor Flitwick doing the ceremony?
"When I call your name, you will come up here and put the hat on your head" he says in his squeaky voice. "Aarons, Cassandra" A petite blonde haired girl with pigtails sits on the stool. A minute later, it shouts "Slytherin!" The sorting ceremony is a lot more fun that I remember it to be. Probably because I'm not the one being sorted. Almost at the end, I hear a name that I recognize. "Weasley, Ginerva" the only Weasley girl steps forward, looking a little green, and sits on the stool. A second later, it shouts "Gryffindor!" I clap, along with the rest of the Weasleys and Gryffindors. When everyone has been sorted, food appears on the table. Since I want to get fit and have abs and an enviable body - I didn't tell my grandfather that last part - he created a diet for me. It is increased in fiber, protein, and low sugar. He also told me how to portion everything out. That means that I don't eat as much as everyone else. Just ⅓ chicken, ⅓ fruit salad, and ⅓ mashed potatoes.
Harry and Ron don't show up during the entire feast. We don't run into them either when we climb the stairs to Gryffindor Tower, although the rumor about them flying the Ford Anglia to Gryffindor tower is running wild. When we get to Gryffindor tower, everyone lingers in the common room to wait for them. "I'm going to go look for them" Hermione says. About five minutes later though, Ron and Harry come into the common room - followed by a disapproving Hermione - to the applause of the common room. "Brilliant!" yells Lee Jordan. "Inspired! What an entrance! Flying a car right into the Whomping Willow, people'll be talking about that one for years -" "Good for you," a fifth year tells Harry. "Why couldn't we've come in the car, eh?" Fred and George ask at the same time. Hermione goes past me irritably into the girls' dorm and I follow her. As soon as I lay down, I go to sleep.
*Author's Note: Short chapter, so I'll upload the next one because this one isn't too terribly exciting.*
