I heard a pan drop in the kitchen, i woke up confused. Slowly I crept into the kitchen and saw Grayson standing there cringing at himself.
Grayson: I was going to make eggs for Christmas breakfast?
Me: but instead you made a mess babe..

I acted serious for a moment but we both just laughed uncontrollably when we heard a voice.

Mya: can I have swome eggs, daddy?
Grayson: I think mommy's gonna make the eggs now..
Me: two right I am aha!

About an hour later our beautiful daughter Mya was sitting under the tree waiting for us to say she could open her presents. I nodded and she picked up a box, opening it suspiciously. She pulled out a frame and I realised I'd labelled the boxes wrong and this one was meant for Grayson.

Mya: mommy? Why are there two daddy's here?
Me: my mistake baby, that one was meant for daddy not you!
Mya: who is the other daddy?
Grayson: that's your uncle Ethan...
Mya: I have a uncle Etan?!
Me: yes, but he's not here anymore baby..
Mya: where'd he go daddy?
Grayson: to a beautiful place called heaven, where he can look after us and he can be happy and safe..
Mya: can we go and visit?
Me: sweetie that's the thing...you can't visit heaven.
Mya: but I want to meet uncle Etan?!
Grayson: we are all going to see him soon, just not yet ok, Mya?
Me: one day baby girl.
Mya: well did you know him mommy?
Me: well sweetie, he was mommy's best friend in the whole wide world.

I felt a tear roll down my face and Grayson held my hand and Mya walked away from her unopened presents and sat on the couch in between us too head about her uncle Ethan.

Me: Not only was he mommy's best friend but he was daddy's best friend too.
Mya: I taught you were daddy's best Fwend?
Grayson: mommy's my forever best friend, but Ethan's my brother, and will always be my bro.
Mya: why did he leave tho??
Me: he didn't mean to go baby, he was just driving mommy home and he got hurt, and couldn't wake up.
Mya: he gone?
Grayson: yeah but one day when you finally meet him up in heaven I know he will hug you and never let go.
Mya: but daddy,  he didn't know me?
Grayson: he was waiting for mommy to have you, I'd never seen him so excited. He looked after you and mommy when daddy wasn't being a good daddy.
Mya: do you miss him?
Grayson: with all I am, I didn't know I'd be able to not follow Ethan to heaven once I knew that's where he'd gone. But I had to stay here..
Mya: why?
Grayson: I couldn't ever leave you or mommy alone, I love you both way too much.
Mya: I love you too daddy, and mommy..
Me: always, but do you want to open some more presents baby?
Mya: yes pwease!!
Grayson: go on then!

She ran back to the pile and started ripping wrapping paper. Grayson and I looked at each other tears in our eyes.
Grayson: I miss him so much...
Me: me too gray, me too..,

He kissed my head and lean me on his shoulder while we watched Mya's face light up with each present she opened.

In a weird way it felt like Ethan was there with us..
