Itachi lead team 7 into Konoha after promptly dropping Taro off at the prison. It was quite late, around 3 in the morning to be exact, and the twin's party wouldn't be until the afternoon so they would have plenty of time to shower and rest until then. As a team tradition, they first dropped Sakura off at her home, then Naruto at his apartment, but this time it was Sasuke and Itachi that went home together. It was strange to say the least. The two of them haven't been alone together since the war and even then they were battling the whole time.

"It's nice to come back to a peaceful home." Itachi smiled up at the moonlight, Sasuke felt his heart twinge in guilt.

"Yeah." He murmured and walked next to his elder brother for the first time, shoulder to shoulder. "Itachi-"

"I don't want you to apologize Sasuke." Itachi stopped and turned towards his little brother.

"Nii-san it's my fault you died in the first place." Sasuke clenched his fists and an overwhelming feeling of emotions washed over him. His eyes glued to the ground in shame.

"Sasuke look at me." Itachi placed his hands on either of Sasuke's shoulders and gazed into Sasuke's sorrowful black orbs. They were no longer full of that same light and admiration he had as a kid. They were dark, hurt, regretful. "I had a sickness that would've killed me in a much more painful way around the time of our fight. I wanted to die by your hand. Call me selfish, but I also wanted to atone for my sins. I see now that hurt you more than anything, and I'm sorry Sasuke. Truly." Sasuke's eyes widened at his words as tears threatened to spill down his cheeks, he embraced Itachi tightly.

"I'm glad you're back Nii-san." He murmured into Itachi's chest, making the elder Uchiha chuckle and return the embrace just as tightly.

"I'm glad to be back. Now let's go home little brother. I'm sure Keiko will be glad to know we made it back unscathed." Itachi smiled a genuine smile that could make any person's heart explode with happiness and with a light poke on Sasuke's forehead, he lead on. With the now grouchy Sasuke rubbing his forehead following him, grumbling about how he ruined the moment and something about why can't his siblings just be normal for once.

The two brothers reached the compound and stopped for a moment to take in the scenery. It was truly different from what they had remembered. Barren streets no longer held the lively shops, bustling with Konoha villagers and Uchiha alike. There was almost a lack of warmth to it. But when they had seen their own home, it was like they were transported to the past with Itachi carrying Sasuke on his back after training. It was almost exactly the same, but now there were flowers that decorated the entrance of the home and it seemed like the wood had been stained again.

The two of them walked into the quiet home stealthily to make sure to not wake anyone, only to be surprised to see Kakashi at the table with paperwork spread out in front of him. The poor man was fast asleep with his head on his right palm, but his mask was still pulled up. As if he knew they would return that night. Keiko was also there, she sat next to Kakashi and had also fell asleep with paperwork in front of her, but her head rested on Kakashi's right shoulder. Itachi quietly chuckled at the sight, making Sasuke smirk.

"They are really in love huh." Itachi smiled at the sight, his heart warming.

"Yeah, they've been inseparable since I was a genin." Sasuke shook his head and made his way to the table. He gently shook Keiko's shoulder, only to be responded with a flying hand to shoo him away in her sleeping state.

"Hush go to bed Sasuke." She mumbled and snuggled deeper into Kakashi's warmth. That is until she realized what she said and shot right up, quickly wrapping her youngest brother into a tight embrace. "You're home!" She exclaimed into his ear as to not wake up Kakashi or the twins. "You're not hurt are you?" She let him go and gave him a quick look over and once satisfied she ran to Itachi and wrapped him in a big hug, surprised by her sudden awake state he almost forgot that he was in a safe home and someone was actually welcoming him back.
