"I've got to say, Max . . . Camp Campbell is like a really bad acid trip." Marianna said.

"Well, between getting kidnapped, forced to interact with morons, constantly being in danger . . ." Max sighed.

"I feel like you have a hand in a lot of that chaos, Max," Marianna said.

"Oh, hell yeah." He confessed.

"Why am I not surprised?" She said.

Max and Marianna sat on the pier looking out at the sunrise.

"Welp! I'll have to head back in a few hours . . . which means I won't be able to see you for a while." Marianna sighed, "Will you be able to manage?"

"Yeah, I guess." Max sighed.

Marianna looked at her little brother, then pulled him into a giant hug. As Max hugged back, he heard something crumple in Marianna's pocket. As the two separated, Marianna reached into her pocket and pulled out some legal forms. She had completely forgotten about them. Looking down at her brother, Marianna took a knee and smiled.

"What the hell are those for?" Max asked.

"Oh yeah!" Marianna blushed, "I completely forgot about this."

Marianna straightened the papers and let Max read them. Adoption forms, court papers, the letter about Parent's Day from Camp Campbell, and receipts for plane tickets. What did it all mean? Max looked at his sister confused, unaware of the crowd forming around them.

"Marianna, what's this?" Max asked.

"Before I came here, I had been in and out of court trying to adopt you." Marianna said, "But I couldn't because Mom and Dad still had custody and rights over you."

"Okay . . ." Max said.

"So, I took them to court using your letters as evidence of the abuse." Marianna explained, "A few months ago, while I was on tour, I had gotten the letter summoning me to court for the verdict."

"W-what happened?" Neil asked.

"Yeah, how did it turn out?" Gwen asked.

"Isn't it obvious?" David asked, "Marianna only received the notice from Camp Campbell because she was re-listed as Max's legal guardian."

"The court ruled in my favor!" Marianna smiled, "I had all the necessary resources to raise a child, and the income to not only sustain a living for myself . . . but to also put Max through college."

"What the fuck does it all mean?" Max snapped, rubbing his head.

"Simple Max, I'm your legal guardian." Marianna smiled, "Which means, I'll be here to pick you up at the end of the summer."

"What?" Max gasped, "Are you fucking serious!?"

Max ran into his sister's arms, hugging her with all her might. Everyone was happy for Max, especially David. He was glad to meet Marianna, but it was also good to know that Max had someone that truly cared for him to go home to at the end of camp.

"You and I are gonna be together from now on, little bro." Marianna said, "I won't leave your side . . . no matter what."

"Looks like things are looking up for you, Max." Nikki smiled.

"Think you'll be able to stick around here with us until the end?" Neil asked.

Max thought about this, looking between his fellow campers, the Camp Counselors, and his sister. Knowing that he got to go home with one of the few people that actually gave a shit about him at the end of the summer was epic . . . and all he had to do was suffer through Camp Campbell a bit longer?

"Sure . . . you loser would be lost without me anyway." Max smiled.

Neil punched him in the arm as Nikki pulled Max into a tight hug. Marianna was happy to know that Max had made some friends, despite the horrors he's probably seen since she left. It gave her a bit of hope that he wasn't too fucked up in the head. For such a little guy, Max was pretty smart . . . she couldn't wait to hear about all the adventures he had while she was away.

"Aw Max really does love us!" Nikki teased, pulling his cheek.

"Nikki! Don't do that!" Neil scolded.

"Max wuvs his friends!" Nikki cooed, "Ain't that right, buddy?"

Well . . . let's hope he doesn't try to kill them before they get started.
