T H A L I A

As I walked through Hogwarts majestic entrance hall my breathing became uneven. What if I just sit there for ten minutes and I'm sent home? What if I make no new friends so I'll have to eat my lunch and dinner in the toilets with Moaning Myrtle? (Fred and George like to tell me things)

Ron notices my nervousness and grabs onto my hand, I turn to him and smile at him gratefully before turning back to the front as Professor McGonagall opens the doors.

She leads the way and I stand right behind a bushy haired girl that walks with confidence in her step.

McGonagall sets a three-legged stool on the floor in front of the teachers table and puts an old withered hat on top of it.

The hole in the brim opens wide and the hat starts singing.

'Oh, you may not think I'm pretty,

But don't judge on what you see,

I'll eat myself if you can find

A smarter hat than me.

...

So put me on! Don't be afraid!

And don't get in a flap!

You're in safe hands (thought I have none)

For I'm a thinking cap!'

As the hat finished there was a small amount of applause before McGonagall pulled out a long scroll and started calling out names.

"Abbot, Hannah"

McGonagall started calling out names and all the first years walked up shakily to the hat before sitting down on the stool and letting the hat decide their fate for the next seven years.

"HUFFLEPUFF!"

"Granger, Hermione"

At this the bushy haired girl in front of me pulled our of her spot in the line and walked up to the hat with a slightly smaller spring in her step than she had before.

"GRYFFINDOR!" The red and gold table where my cousins were sitting erupted in cheers and I smiled. If I don't get sorted into Gryffindor I think I'll leave.

"Potter, Harry"

Murmurs erupted around the room as the boy with the lightning bolt scar clearly visible behind his messy black hair walked over to the hat and shakily place it on his head

He sat there for quite a long time as the Hat pondered on where to put him. After about two minutes, Harry gripped on to the stool and started mouthing something that I couldn't make out.

"GRYFFINDOR!" The hat screamed and the table at the end of the hall cheered so loudly I had to hold on to my ears to stop my eardrums from bursting

"Weasley, Ronald"

I watched as Ron walked up to the Hat, visibly shaking and sat down on the stool waiting for the verdict.

"GRYFFINDOR!" The hat yelled seconds after it touched his head and I clapped loudly. If I don't get into Gryffindor after this, I may cry.

"Bl-Weasley, Thalia" McGonagall said blushing at her mistake

I walked up to the hat trying not to look like I was dying on the inside and obviously failing.

As the hat slipped past my eyes, blinding me from all the staring eyes a voice sounded in my ear.

"Aah, the offspring of two of Hogwarts worst mischief makers, let's hope you don't live up to the family name"

No promises

"Heard that"

Whatever

"You also have gained your Seeing abilities from your mother, am I correct?"

Couldn't be more right my friend

"Your father was the first Gryffindor from a long line of Slytherins, did you know that?"

Did not actually

"I think there's only one house in this place for you. You're brave, daring and chivalrous, all the characteristics of a GRYFFINDOR!"

I jumped up from my stool grinning, handed the hat back to a smiling Professor McGonagall and ran over to Fred and George who were cheering loudly and had saved a spot for me

I looked at the red and gold clad people sitting around me smiling at me and couldn't imagine a place where I could belong other than with these people.
