Vlad saw a toddler falling past the window, then he heard a crash from below which could only mean one thing.

Erin held Artur against her, the infant looked perfectly fine as he played with a plush bat. "I'm glad I got your attention." She said quietly, looking at the ground.
Vlad folded his arms with a smirk on his face. "Dropping a kid? Cruel way to get someone's attention."
"I'm sorry." Erin's mouth moved as if she was thinking deeply, when in fact a whole battle was going on in her mind. One part of her hated the vampire who had stolen her life, the other was thankful that he'd let her keep living.
Vlad shrugged. "It's alright, he didn't actually fall, so..."
"No. I'm sorry for everything. I was a complete idiot." She looked up and their eyes met.
"I forgive you."

10 Years Later
Artur Dracula held the hand of his little sister as she approached yet another day of her first year at school. The mornings were always a big affair for Rose and Artur liked to give her as much support as possible. That's what older siblings were for, after all.
Artur was class president at the Public School for Peaceful Coexistence. Though of course, he hadn't gained the position easily; there had been five other candidates in all. Luckily his twin cousins, Caster and Astrid, had bragged about how his dad was The Chosen One. That had gotten Artur a lot of votes.
Artur's first lesson this morning was history. They didn't learn about vikings and knights and evolution. They learnt about the past war between vampires and humans, and how it was overcome. Even though the fighting was over, Artur knew just how important it was to never forget the past; To never forget the memories, good and bad; To never forget the emotions and conflicts; To never forget the people.
