Vlad heard a crash. Then a howl. Then Ingrid scream.
He didn't think, he just sped into the entrance hall and looked around. Ingrid was rocking herself back and forth on the ground, crying. Wolfie was crying too, but he was standing and staring at the door. Vlad didn't see Artur anywhere, he also didn't see Will.
Panic rushed through him, engulfing his mind. He couldn't think straight, all he could think was that Will had kidnapped Artur and he had to get his son back.
Vlad ran to the large wooden doors and tried to turn the handles, they were locked. He felt himself shaking with desperation. Vlad used his strength to turn the handles, but he turned them too far and they snapped off.
Ingrid screamed again. Vlad turned around and his sister was pointing at him. No, she was pointing at something behind him.
Or someone.
Erin smiled, "Hello, Vladimir."
Vlad faced her, she was directly in front of him, centimetres away. She held a stake.
"Funny how things turn out," Erin played with the weapon, "Any last words, Chosen One?"
Vlad swallowed. To get out of this he would need perfect timing, and he would need fate on his side.
"Kismet," He whispered, trying to reach the good Erin one last time.
He lost hope when she said, "And they were last words."
Erin raised the stake and brought it down on Vlad.
Now. He turned to smoke and the wood passed between him with ease.
He then turned back into his normal self and sped to the far corner of the room where Ingrid was. He tried to get his sister to stand, but wasn't in any emotional state to move.
Erin shrieked in frustration. Vlad should have been dust by now. She picked up the stake and threw it with vampire speed in his direction.
Vlad didn't even see it coming. But it flew past him.
The stake hit Ingrid.
Vlad shouted her name and looked on in shock, but his sister did not turn to ash.
Ingrid opened her mouth as if screaming, only no sound came out. She was paralysed by pain. The stake was lodged in her chest, millimetres from her heart. But not touching.
Erin knew she'd lost her chance at dusting Vlad. But she had Artur back now. And Ingrid was as good as dust, it would take a ridiculously good vampire surgeon to remove that stake without scraping her heart.
Erin watched Vlad hold his sister up, trying to keep her still as she silently screamed, her eyes like a waterfall.
Then Erin left the castle.

When Erin got back to the cottage, she snatched Artur from Will and instantly began half crying, half laughing as she cuddled her little boy. The toddler seemed to be very happy to see Erin, she wrapped a fist around her short hair and giggled.
Will leave against the wall, "You're welcome."
She wiped her eyes and grinned, "Thankyou."
Will motioned to the living room, "Sit down and tell me all about it."
Erin didn't go sit down. She put Artur on the ground as he tried to get out of her grasp. The toddler crawled down the hallway.
"It didn't work," Erin said quietly, "He's not dust."
