 Noah's POV:

The club was busy. It was a Saturday night so it wasn't unexpected.

Since it was our second opening night, our father had asked me and Luca to help out considering they were understaffed not having expected so many people to turn up to a new club.

It had been a long day because me and Luca only just finished our first surveillance mission. We were new to the academy so they hesitant to give us big assignments but I know we need to wait to gain trust.

"Seen anything off?" I jumped as I spun to meet Luca's fiery gaze.

"No, everything's good."

He just grunted. In truth neither of us wanted to be here. We don't like our father but we didn't want to make a big deal of coming, hopefully he'll leave us alone after tonight.

The club was the second to open in my father's branch, I think me a Luca both know that something shady is going on behind the scenes but our father has always been good at hiding any traces of criminality.

"I don't like this Noah, something doesn't feel right"

I nodded, I knew what he meant. I had a sinking feeling for the next hour.

Me and Luca stood behind the bar until we got called to our father's office.

There were offices and conference rooms at the sides and back of the building where the music could barely be heard. I understood why dad would want to spend all of his time here.

Soft cries brought me out of my thoughts.

"Did you hear that?"

As Luca shook his heard I heard a louder cry filled with pain coming from the bin alley so I took off running towards the sounds that seemed to call out to me.

At first there was no sign of anyone, only shouts from the front of the club but as I tuned my head, behind all the storage boxes a small mound lay against the wall.

I moved towards the body, checking for movement and signs of life.

"Luca, I need some help here!" I hoped he heard me.

I knew it was a girl by the small body, they were obviously homeless but as I stood above her, I noticed that even though she was small, she wasn't a child.

Leaning over her body, careful of her injuries, I pushed her hair back.

My breath hitched in my throat as I caught sight of her eyes before they fluttered closed. Those haunted green eyes had shadows that didn't belong in a beautiful bird.

Who would do this to her?

"Little bird, I'm so so sorry"

I heard Luca before I saw him, he could see the unconscious girl in front of me.

My brother never really let his emotions show but I knew that when anger and sadness flashed across his face that this little bird would change our lives.

We called Phil and he told us to bring her straight , he was the only academy member that we trusted. Me and Luca kept to ourselves, being new members, we could've joined a team but we decided against it. It had always been the two of us, we didn't want to change that.

We got several looks as we made our way though the hospital with the bleeding and unconscious girl between us, I'm sure that if we hadn't been in the academy ward, we would've been arrested but these things happened everyday.

Phil was in a meeting when I interrupted while Luca set the girl down in a private room down the hall.

"She's in bad shape" I couldn't get anymore words out, I was worried about her.

Phil addressed the man in the suit.

"Sorry Owen but we will deal with this later."

Owen looked shocked to be dismissed and slightly peeved but didn't argue. I had never liked that side of the academy, the pretentious side with the stick up it's ass.

I lead Dr Roberts to the room Luca had taken the girl to, I risked a look back and saw ass-stick whispering with a doctor while looking at us. I got the sudden urge to flip him off. But decided against it considering the circumstances.

"Care to fill me in on what happened? As far as I'm aware you weren't on assignment"

Doc had just finished a series of x-rays and blood tests while Luca tried to get in contact with someone who could find out who this girl was.

I explained to him what lead up to me finding her. I couldn't help but stare at her though. Her face was now clean of grime and one of the nurses had washed her hair while checking for any head injuries.

Her face was shaped like a heart although her eyes and lips took up most of her face. Her hair was golden but held hundreds of different sides of colour.

I found myself wanting to protect her, to shield her from whatever hurt her. I planned to do exactly that.

---------------------

Looking at her eyes now as she awaits my brother's question shine with wariness. Her body language translates to confidence but her expressions give her away. She's afraid.

"What's your name?"

This girl was a ghost, we had learnt that when Luca spent 3 frustrating days asking techs to search for her, they found nothing.

"Sang Sorenson"

Her eyes didn't leave Luca's face as if she's challenging him to ask her another question. Feisty.

"How old are you?"

"I'm seventeen"

"Where do you live?"

"I move around a lot"

"Where are your parents?"

"Around"

She hesitated and Luca sent me a look that told me he was fed up of her evasiveness.

"Look, Sang, we just wanted to make sure you're not involved with the wrong people"

"I'm not involved with the wrong people. Who's to say you guys aren't the wrong people"

As soon as she turned those dull green orbs to me, I knew I would do anything to help her.

I held my hand out and kept my words truthful.

"I want to help you. All you have to do is let me"

She stared at my hand for such a long time, it was obvious she didn't trust me but she needed to trust herself.

I felt a warmth envelope my hand and se squeezed it lightly before looking at me with shining eyes.

"Thank you"
