Chapter 3:
“Well I will deal with you two first.” he said pointing at me and Billy “The rest of you go and stand against the back wall facing away from me. NO TALKING!” Every one knew what was coming so did what they was told. Me and Billy sat down and suddenly I felt really small because so many people were looking down at me. I grabbed Billy’s hand and it gave me all the confidence I needed to sit up straight and face what was coming.
“Do I even need to ask your teachers if I should consider taking you off of H-M?” I wasn’t sure how to answer. Billy did it for me.
“You can if you want” he said in a polite tone that so didn’t match his mood “but I expect the answer will be no.”
“Very well. What have you done so far today?” He sounded board with us and he probably was; me and Billy had been in here more times that all of the mathematic staff put together. There were ten math’s teachers. All of them were old. Billy went to answer again but the Head stopped him, “I was directing that question Miss Jones but I will come to you shortly Mr Flicker.”
Oh god, now I was in deep s**t. I usually relied on Billy in here. But now I was on my own.
“I haven’t done anything Sir” Well, I hadn’t done any work. I had spent both my English Lesson and my Geography Lesson outside the room with the rest of my friends.
Miss Parent obviously wasn’t going to let me get away with that on “Actually sir, Miss Jones has done quite a bit. She has been exercising her leg muscles outside of my class room for the past hour. Standing. So has Mr Flicker. They purposely upset me, just so they didn’t have to do anything.”
Well, that was a lie. It’s not that I didn’t want to do anything, it’s just that I didn’t like her. I didn’t bother arguing though, I wouldn’t come out on top. The Head just nodded his Head. “You two,” again he pointed at me and Billy. I didn’t get what all the pointing was for, wasn’t it supposed to be rude? “Go and stand against the wall like the others were. You five, come forward.“ The others went forwards. Usually James was with us but he wasn’t allowed in Miss Parent’s class room so had to work out of a text book with Mrs Chalk watching him. He literally walked through the door and the other’s reached the desk. Mrs Chalk close behind him. He went forward with the others because he was sent out in English as well. I can’t say what the Head said next surprised me “You six are all going onto H-M as of now! Your parents will be contacted and you will all attend a meeting in here with me after school. That includes you two as well.” I didn’t get why I didn’t to go, but apparently I needed to. I would have been here anyway because of my brother but now Billy’s parents would have to drive the hour it took them to get down for some reason I didn’t understand. The other’s were nodding because they knew this was coming. He said we could leave, so we went into the school café and got a roll. No one seemed particularly worried about what the Head had said. I looked around the table at al of the couples. There was me and Billy, Rosie and George, Lucy and Shane and Gemma and James. Even if some of us broke up, we would be alright because we were friends before we were going out. We didn’t cause too much trouble in any other lesson but we didn’t bother going to see the Head Master at lunch because there was no way we would get off. We had our last lesson and then we all went down to the office. He didn’t say anything I hadn’t heard before. He just told our parents what had happened and what the consequences were. He also introduced a new penalty, stating tomorrow. If we don’t get all good reviews, we get an hour detention for every bad one we get! How ridiculous is that?!
My parents drove my and my brother home whilst telling us that we were both grounded for the remainder of the month. That wasn’t too bad considering we were on October 20th. I don’t think they realised how long they had said. I went to my room and went to put the music in my CD player, when I realised it wasn’t there. My brother stuck his head out the door at the same time. They must have taken his as well. I went down stairs to have a go at them.
“MUM, DAD!!! WHERE IS MY CD PLAYER!! WHY HAVE YOU TAKEN IT?!” I was shouting but I didn’t care, I was annoyed, really annoyed.
“When we said you were grounded we meant it,” mum said “no music, no TV , no phone, no laptop or computer, obviously no going out and no doing anything really.”
“We took the liberty of taking both of your phones out of your blazer pockets when you hung them up. You can go technology free for and week or so. “ Dad said “Now go to your room. Your Mother and I want to watch TV.”
I went upstairs and pulled my bed out. I got out my emergency mobile from under my bed. It was a cheap Nokia and we all had one in case we got grounded for some reason. It had music on it as well as all of our numbers. I got it out and I went into Shane’s room. If we were all going to sneak out tonight, it needed careful planning. Me and Shane both used up most of our credit trying to organise it. We worked it out so that 10:45 Billy would get on the bus after going out of his window, and climbing down the drainpipe. We would meet him there at 11pm after climbing out of the bathroom window and down that tree that was right next to it. The others lived on the other side of town so would meet us at the cinema at 11:45pm so we could catch the midnight showing of ‘The Perks Of Being A Wallflower’. I didn’t think they did a midnight showing but they did. James still had his proper phone so he checked the times for us. When the time came, we left and we saw the film. Sneaking out was nothing new to us; we did it all the time. That was why we had the emergency phones. Shane went in before me because he didn’t want to watch me and Billy make out. I went in about five minuets later after saying goodbye to Billy. No one had noticed we had gone and no one noticed we had came back.
