Kaite's - POV
After mum had finally stopped crying and we had let go of each other, I invited Drew back to the house. It seemed that muk took an instant liking to Drew, liking the fact that she had been the one helping me on my journey back. I didn't even have to tell her.
Mother's intuition I guess.
Now that our reunion was over, I knew that I would have to explain everything to her, but, I had told her that I wanted to tell Jessica and Jill at the same time and so she had gone to call them.
I was aware that she suspected that something wadn't quite right because she frowned when I didnt use Hugh's name as well, obviously not suspecting or expecting that I was at the scene of where it all happened.
I'd seen a lot of movies where the main character kept a big secret from the others to 'keep them safe' but I'd always hated it when they did that. Not telling them would actually put them more at risk, compared to them knowing the full situation and the risks out there. Before I was taken, everyone trusted me. Everyone knew that I wasn't a rash person who did something for no reason and if they still thought of me in that way, then it was going to be even easier.
Outside, I heard Jessica's car pull up fast. Two doors opened and closed very quicly and loudly before they knocked on the door, seeming to slow down on their approach.
When the door was opened for them by mum, they burst through, looking around frantically before their eyes fell onto me.
"Katie!" Jessica said, rushing up to me with tears in her eyes. She flung her arms around me and pressed her face into my shoulder.
I felt another pair of arms coming around from my side and noticed that it was Jill.
Both my friends were with me again. I wrapped my arms around both of them, stretching to reach. I started chuckling at how squished I was in-between them, which got them to notice how much they were squashing me and caused them to be a little more lax in their grip.
They pulled back and just stared at me for a while and I did the same with them. It felt like I hadn't seen them in a life time, and for me, that was somewhat true. I was like a different person now. Although I still retained some of the traits that I had before, a lot of them had gone away and new ones had arisen. New and better traits because I was a better person now.
"You've been gone for such a long time." Jill said. She stopped to collect her thoughts before continuing. "What happened?"
"And who is that?" Jessica asked, noticing Drew behind me.
Drew had stayed out of all the commotion but when asked, she answered.
"I'm Drew. Katie's friend." She answered Jessica's question straight away. "And as for what happened...actually, I think it would be better if Katie were to tell you."
And so I did. I told them the whole story and they stayed quiet throughout. I thought that they might have wanted to ask questions while I told them what happened to me over all that time, but they just stared ay me wide eyed. Obviously shocked.
"..and so after we got off the boat we came back here."
I waited for someone to speak up but it took quite a while before I saw my mum open her mouth to say somthing.
"You went through all that?" Her eyes scanned me as she said that, checking for anything physically wrong with me.
I looked over to Jessica and Jill to gauge their reaction but they seemed as shocked as mum, or even more so.
Just before anyone could ask any more questions I felt as if something was wrong. Looking over to Drew I saw the same expression on her face, confirming my thoughts.
Realising that I was acting weird they all looked at me but I put my finger to my lips, telling them to be quiet.
Everything just felt wrong.
I closed my eyes and listened carfully. At first I could only hear the sound of my heart beat but after a few seconds I heard the sound of someone softly stepping on leaves right outside the window. That person who broke into mine and Drew's room must have contacted the academy and they had sent someone more skilled to try and either get us to come back, or get rid of us if we didn't cooperate.
Knowing that alerting the person to the fact that we were onto them was a bad idea, I didn't move towards where I had heard the sounds, but instead stayed where I was. I needed to figure out where this person would come from and the best way to do that would be to put myself in thier shoes.
The front door? That option is off the table straight away; it's too conspicuous.
Back door? They would have to climb over the fence, which would make a lot of noise as it was old.
The best way to get into the house would be through one of the windows. Since the back garden was off limits that would mean they would try and sneak through one on the front or one on the side. We had two windows around the side of the house but one was too small and the other one had bars on the inside, which would be too noisy and would take too long to cut through.
Thus, the only window left that they could come from was my room window, which was at the front of the house.
I pulled my daggers out, which caused mum, Jessica and Jill to flinch, and pointed towards the ceiling to Drew. Since she hadn't had the time to do a full scouting of the house she wouldn't be able to come to the conclusion that I did.
Nodding, she pulled out her own weapon.
Hearing my window quietly open with the small squeak as always, I was proven right. Unfortunately, at that exact moment I heard someone climbing over the back garden fence.
Two people? I guess that makes sense since both me and Drew were here. I didn't know why I didn't think of that sooner.
Drew was already quietly moving towards the back door, having decided that she will deal with the person outside and I was left with the one upstairs.
"You already know I'm here, don't you Katie?"
That voice. I recognised it. I couldn't place from where but I knew the person's voice.
Knowing that there were only two people around, I encouraged the other three to find somewhere safe in the house to hide, sticking together.
Drew could take care of things on her end. It was only dependant on whether I could on mine.
I heard someone walking down the stairs, but it wasn't until they reached half way that I was actually able to see their feet.
A sword in hand, she leisurely walked down the stairs until I could see her whole being. A red mane flowed behind her as she slowly reached the bottom and only then did I reconginse her.
Blake's sister, Matilda stood infront of me.
"It's been a long time hasn't it?" She said with a sadistic smile.
