Kaite's - POV
"What?" I said, utterly confused by the fact that she was one of the people after me.
"Is that how you greet old friends?" She said, laughing maniacally. "You do know that I am the reason that you even were able to enter the academy in the first place, right?"
She was the reason that I was taken. Which means that she had been planning this all along.
When I had slept over at her house.
When she had driven me home. That strange feeling I got back then in the car must have been my mind knowing that something was wrong with her. Unfortunately, at that time, I had no experience with any sort of danger so didn't realise what that feeling was. Afterwards, I had too much going on to think about a moment that was, at the time, trivial to me.
"So you're the reason for all of this." I said. My confusion dissipated and I suddenly didn't really care about what she had to say anymore.
"After all my hard work of bringing you in and this is how you repay me." She laughed maniacally again.
"I'm going to kill you." I said in a cold tone which wiped all the joy off her face.
"I'd like to see you try." She said, before quickly lunging at me with her sword. I deflected it with one of my daggers and aimed the other one at her heart but she quickly jumped back out of the way.
"This is going to be more fun that I thought." She said, wickedly, before increasing her speed, letting me know that the first strike was only a warning. The calm before the storm.
She was definitely correct about that.
Blows came from either side, trying to gain dominance but not being able to break through each other's defences. It wasn't until she surprised me with a kick that it started to change. I quickly recoved and went at her again, this time using her own style, but faking out at the last possible moment so that I could go in with my daggers again.
Soon we were consistently skimming blows off each other, neither getting any clean hits apart from her kick and the first time I had faked a punch. We matched each other too well.
But, unfortunately for her, I had studied the techniques on how to be more effective just before we came back here and one of the things Drew showed me was how to constantly change up the patterns of attack to make it that much harder for your opponent to read.
She seemed surprised and angered by my constant change in attacking and didn't look so cocky anymore.
Just as I was getting her into a corner I felt a sudden pain in my arm. Because I had become distracted, I missed the small knife that she had taken out with her other hand and thrown into my arm.
Although the pain wasn't too bad, my grip was slowly fading and I knew that I would have to fight with only one dagger soon, which wasn't very convinient, especially against the longer reach that she had with her sword.
Faltering for a split second, Matilda pounced on my like a lion to a wounded gazel.
Luckily for me, I was much more capable than that.
Acting on instinct, I jumped back, just getting out of range for her first swing, leaned back for her second and ducked under and forward while scrapping one of my daggers across her leg.
Her knee skimmed my ribs as she kept up her assault, but I dodged the majority of the blows. Her assault carried on but I had an answer to all of her questions.
She couldn't get a big hit on me. She had lost her knife and the advantage of a surprise attack which she first had when she started her onslaught.
"Is that all you've got?" I questioned, realising that I was actually much better at this than a few weeks before. The training sessions with Drew really did help.
I wasn't even going at my maximum and I was able to keep up with her rage induced best.
Before this, I hadn't had much of a chance to test out my new skills, but now that I was finally getting the chance to, I was really happy.
While defending myself from her vicious charge, I made sure to keep an eye on the surroundings to make sure that everything was alright with Drew and that no one else had decided to join in.
While doing that I saw mum, Jessica and Jill hurridly trying to move to a safer location as we had backed up near them.
Matilda also saw that and that was when she decided to make her move.
Changing up her style she fumbled with her sword before continuing her pace. The mistake that she made with her sword threw me off and I wasn't prepared for the next blow that came and, thus, was knocked the the ground.
Matilda ran towards them, obviously trying to cut them down, but as I still had my daggers in my hands I wasn't worried.
Before even getting into a seated position I threw one of them at her back. She crumpled to the floor as it had hit something vital. Getting up slowly, I walked over to her and lowered myself to her height.
"I need to protect my family, I need to protect my family..." She mumbled the same thing over and over again, not looking like she was in the same world as the rest of us.
So even she had stuff she wanted to protect. This insane person had a family and friends - people that she cared about and wanted to keep safe.
Even with all that, she went after mine, intent on destroying them as best she could. I guess I could relate.
Before anyone could react I pressed the knife up against her throat and harshly dragged it across.
Although I had a family and friends that I wanted to protect and I knew that she did too, my family and friends were the only ones that mattered to me. I didn't care what happend to the people that this psycho treasured.
Dashing outside I saw Drew just finishing the fight. Whoever it was that she was fighting was suddenly headless and then their body dropped to the floor.
Before I arrived by her side she spoke up.
"That was Mamba."
The person who had tourted me and put me through so much when I first arrived here. The one who had plagued my nightmares had been slain and was no longer on this earth.
The satisfactory feeling that I felt was one filled with pure joy. I didn't fear her anymore but that didn't mean that the torment while I was weak still didn't have any affect on me.
I looked across as Drew and she realised that I had something planned.
"I want us to go back." I said.
She looked at me surprised, but understood I had more to say and let me carry on.
They weren't going to stop coming after all the people that I cared about. The only way for us to stop something happening would be if we went back there and destroyed it from the inside."
