Mystic Falls
Elena's head buzzed with incoherent voices, her head was thumping in pain. She slipped out of her covers, sitting slouched on the side of her bed. Elena tried to steady her barging thoughts, her head was killing her.

Blinking rapidly to discard the last fragments of sleep, she leaned over to the side of her bed where she knew her small bedside cupboard was. She hastily rummaged through the compartments of the cupboard until her hand grasped the small box of Advil.

Opening the mini box of drugs, she swallowed whole two pills and cringed hard when they stung on their way down her throat.

She stretched her arms, trying to get the adrenaline kicking in so she could face the challenge of a day ahead of her and hopefully get rid of the feeling of dread relentlessly gnawing at her insides.

Yawning into the void of her room, she stood up clutching onto her cupboard for support and stalked to her bathroom. She opted to have a quick morning shower to unwind her rigid muscles, and get dressed in a simple outfit before going downstairs to brew herself breakfast.

-------

When Elena arrived downstairs to prepare herself her much anticipated morning coffee and a consumable meal, she was surprised to see Caroline there already preparing bacon on the pan with eggs already readied on the side.

"What the hell are you doing here?" She asked skeptically, suspiciously walking up to the kitchen island in slow steps in case of something unprecedented barrelling into her. Caroline didn't reply, she was humming to a song and whistling along.

"I decided to slip in at night; I couldn't leave my bestfriend alone when she was going through a terribly horrible breakup now could I?" She asked, a glint of sympathy and concern evident on her beautiful blond features as she sung along to the lines of the song that was purring from her cellphone.

"What a feeling to be right here beside you now, holding you in my arms. When the air-"

Damn, she loved that song. Her one direction days were long left behind, but she would always admit to being a huge fan since the early age of 16.

"I'm not- what are you even on about?" Elena queried, her heart clenching slightly at an unrecognizable memory that she couldn't quite place her finger on, yet.

"I haven't been in a relationship since-," her words succumbed on her tongue, she couldn't bear to say his name.

Damon.

Caroline gave her a empathetic look, probably catching onto her insinuation and her cause of distress.

"C'mon, let's eat. Just you and me. Let's forget about boys and relationships, okay?" Caroline attempted to be of comfort, trying to get her friends mind away from where it was headed.

"Here, take a seat," she pulled out a chair, passing her the plate of readied breakfast.

Elena was grateful for Caroline, her earnest display of friendship could really elate people when they felt their world crumble before them. She couldn't count how many times Caroline had offered her help, but she was sure it was way more than she had.

"Thank you, Caroline, you know I love you." Elena stated, grateful for her bestfriend's companionship. Caroline smiled sweetly, a grin forming on her lips as she chewed on her piece of bacon, "I know you do, you wouldn't be here without me."

Elena chuckled at her friend's pompousness, smiling and eating her food. She couldn't agree more.

New Orleans
Kol was nervously looking around him as he strolled the streets of New Orleans. The churning of the city could be enjoyable when there wasn't a vampire out to get him.

He was aware what a grave mistake he had made and regretted it almost instantly because of the reaction it produced off of Elijah, but it was too late to take it back he figured.

He wondered why his brain formed such ignorant ideas and chastised his own thinking. Kol could be stubborn at times, and he reluctantly admitted to it.

He was paranoid, examining each face as he walked by them, trying to blend in as much as he could in efforts to not get caught by the beast that his brother currently was. People walking by him threw him weird looks and scoffed critical phrases under their breaths, unaware of his vampire hearing abilities.

He clenched his jaw at every insult.

Kol's phone vibrated in his jean pocket, jolting him out of his timid reveries and he reached inside his pockets to answer the vibrating piece of technology.

The ID read Rebekah. Damn it, just his luck.

He reluctantly picked it up, swiping the green button and contemplating whether he should've let it ring till it shut off, but alas, he answered it.

"Kolinger Mikaeslon! Where in the bloody world are you?" He had to instantaneously distance his ear from the deafening volume dispersing from the phone. Rebekah was shouting her vocal chords off and blasting his eardrums simultaneously. His sensitive ears stung with the sudden onslaught of radio waves and he only just was able to grasp and clutch onto the phone before it slipped from his grip.

He moodily brought it back to his ear so he could reply to her, "what is it Rebekah? I'm not in the mood for your indignant berating." He snapped back, the fear in him causing him to get triggered even more easily than was conventional. He was right, he was in no mood to receive a pet talk from his sister, considering his predicament.

The line got silent for a split second, and with his vampire hearing he could just decipher Klaus shouting in the background amongst all other crashing of objects.

"Kol, I need you to come back, we have a problem." Rebekah's voice took a sudden turn, from incredibly livid to palpably fearful and strained. It was eerie hearing Rebekah let her guard down.

Kol couldn't answer her back in time as the line went silent and the call hung up. He cursed internally, wanting to choke someone as his body fired up with anger. What the hell was wrong with people.

But Rebekah did sound urgent and he loved his sister no matter how much of an opposing impression he gave away.

He took a turn and walked away into a cornered block, trying to physically distance himself from the buzzing of the busy city. He needed space to think. He depended on his gut to guide him into what decision he should go with, and he chose to do what was most fitting for the situation.

He braced himself and vampsped his way back to the compound, heart beating at an incredulous rate by the time he reached the sullen doors.

As he inched closer, he could just about hear Klaus throwing some sort of tantrum and yelling at the top of his lungs. Although he wasn't as strong and Alpha mighty as he used to be prior to the whole ritual fiasco, Klaus still had that unspoken ghost of power over his siblings and he figured it probably would never disappear.

He slowly pushed on the doors, watching tentatively as they creaked into their places and it unravelled the catastrophic scene before him.

Kol swallowed hard, the growing lump in his throat adding resistance to his flow of saliva and making it hard to breathe.

Based on the mess in front of him, he messed up big time. Kol was in for it.

I'm not even exaggerating when I say this, but it has literally been a year since I last updated this fic. Go off in the comments all you want (if you're still reading) and I really, truly apologise for procrastinating for so long. I'll update soon. Enjoy this rushed chapter that I suddenly had an overwhelming urge to update at the middle of the night on an Australia night. Please speak your creative little minds off in the comments, I will not judge one bit. I'm sure there are many errors that slipped past my sleep deprived brain, but I'll try to fix them before anyone else catches onto them.

(Yes, I had to include 1D. You can't blame a girl for having good taste?))
(Yes, What a Feeling is my fav song of theirs))
