"Mac we've been out on a few dates already, what makes this one so much more special than the other ones?" I asked as Mac sat on my worn couch in the living room of my very small one-bedroom apartment. He looked very out of place there with his fancy jeans on, his black suede shoes, and what was probably supposed to be a causal button up for him but still looked too nice for just a casual date. I was in my bedroom that was only a few feet away going through my clothes to try to find something to wear for tonight.

"Because we are going to do something that I think that you will really enjoy in a more relaxed environment," Mac replied as he crossed his one leg over his other knee.

"So casual clothes?" I called with my head in my closet as I was looking for my comfy jeans. I swear that I had just washed them a couple days ago.

"Casual and warm, it might get pretty chilly while we are out there."

"Are we going to be outside?"

"For the majority of the time that we are there, yes."

"You know that I hate surprises."

"Yeah, I know. That's what makes this so much fun."

I snorted at Mac's response, but smiled in victory when I finally found my jeans stuffed away at the back of the closet. I pulled on the jeans as I rummaged through the hangers to see if I had any decent looking sweaters that I could wear that hadn't been destroyed from when Mac's ex had broken into my apartment a few months earlier. I found a light grey one that I had used when I used to do Cross Country and go with a running group before I got my full-time hospital placement. I pulled it on over my shirt before returning to the living room.

"Do you not have a sweater?" I asked as I remembered that Mac was still only wearing a shirt that had three-quarter sleeves.

"I left it in the car, are you ready?" Mac asked as he got up off the couch and stepped towards me. I nodded slowly as Mac leaned down and kissed me on the lips. "Good, let's go."

Mac held out his arm to me in a rather old-fashioned move. I chuckled before wrapping my arm around Mac's as he led me out of my apartment and down to his black BMW that was parked in the small parking lot that we had out back of the apartment building. I kept glancing out the window as Mac drove us out of town and into the country side. I didn't have the slightest clue as to where he was taking me and it was running my nerves raw as I kept fidgeting in my seat. Mac just smiled as he glanced over at me before returning his attention to the road. The sun had started to go down as it was around six in the evening

I froze and stared intently out the window when I saw the bright, colourful, flashing lights coming into view. I whipped my head back to Mac with my mouth partly open before whipping my head back to the window as we got closer. We were approaching the fair grounds that were just outside of the city, there was supposed to be an awesome Halloween Carnival being held over the weekend. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to go since I didn't really have any of my friends that weren't working, and I felt like it would be weird if I went to it alone. There was no way that Mac was taking me there though, he hated fairs as far as I knew.

As we got close though Mac slowed the car and turned into the gravel parking lot of the fairgrounds. No fucking way. I kept glancing between Mac and the fair grounds as Mac pulled into the parking lot, paying the lady in the ticket booth at the gate. I hadn't realized that my mouth was still open until Mac reached over and gently pushed my chin up so that my teeth clicked together, knocking me out of my trance.

"Are we seriously going to the carnival?" I asked Mac still partially stunned at the fact that we were even here.

"Yeah, is that okay?" Mac asked suddenly looking rather nervous as he pulled into a makeshift parking spot.
