"I have to wear this suit again? What's the special occasion?" I asked Mac as I pulled the garment bag out of my closet.
"My dad is holding a special ceremony tonight and I think that this is something that you would really want to be a part of as it does concern the both of us," Mac called from the living room I could hear him slowly pacing the floor. Why was he so nervous about the ceremony tonight?
"What does the ceremony have to do with us?" I called back as I threw the garment bag on the bed and unzipped it.
"It may interfere with the amount of time that we can spend together so I figured that you should know exactly the what and the why."
"You're not breaking up with me, are you?" I asked as I peeked around the door of my bedroom and into the living room, fearfully watching as Mac froze in place in the middle of the living room.
"Gosh no, never, this thing just might make our lives a bit more complicated that's all."
"Why can't you just tell me what it is? What's with all the secrecy?"
"Its just difficult for me to be able to explain it properly without it leaving more questions than answers. Fair?"
"I guess, but is it really such a black-tie kind of affair?"
"Yes, just trust me andget dressed," Mac answered before kissing me on my forehead and ushering meback into the room. He was acting more weird than usual today, and he wasdressed up in his best navy-blue suit with an expensive looking satin tie on.Mac always dressed up, but this was a bit overboard even for him. It wasprobably best that I not push him too much, he kept fiddling with the cufflinks on his sleeves, showing just how much he was stressing out.
I went back into my room and quickly got into the suit. I froze for a moment as I stared down at the bed trying to remember if I had really heard him right two weeks ago. Mac hadn't really said anything since, nor had he said it to me again. I wonder if he thought that I had been asleep when he had said it. Or maybe he was afraid that I didn't really feel the same way. I sighed. After everything that we have been through this past year how could I not? I-I did love him. I just didn't know when would be the good time to say it. There wasn't ever really a good time though was there?
I walked out of my room to see Mac standing by the window with his phone in his hand. He turned back around to face me when he heard the door of my bedroom creak open. He sighed contentedly with a small smile before walking over to me and adjusting my tie slightly.
"You look amazing as always," Mac remarked before giving me a quick kiss on the lips. "But we are running a bit late, so we are going to need to hurry out to the car."
Mac walked briskly towards the door with a hand on the middle of my back. We quickly got down to the main lobby of my apartment and out to Mac's waiting limo. The fact that he was in such a rush to get to this ceremony had me more worried than the fact that he had been constantly fiddling with something the entire time that he had been in my apartment, and now in the car. I didn't know what was going on, not a single clue.
I rested my hand on Mac's knee that was closest to me, giving him a reassuring squeeze. Just because I didn't know what this was all about didn't mean that I couldn't be a supportive partner. I was a bit surprised when he gave me a nervous half-smile back before grasping my hand in his. I had thousands of questions floating around in my head that were just begging to be answered, but that look on Mac's face made me swallow all of them. I just sat quietly beside him as we were taken to where I assumed was the main house since the area seemed rather familiar.
