Tauriel remembered once a dear friend telling her silence was a strange thing.
But fear was stranger. It can eat you up, take over your life in a matter of seconds.
Tauriel was experience somewhat of the opposite, she lived in constant fear masked by her commitment to her people, and those seconds that take over your life are normally caused by happiness.
She isn't living in comfort to be surprised by fear;
She lives in fear surprised by comfort.
The amount Tauriel has seen and been through is enough to twist anybody else's sanity in knots.

But Tauriel has a secret.

The morning after, she woke to find no Legolas but saw a crisp cornered envelope on the chair he was previously sitting in.
How sweet, she thought,
He was growing on her, she was never going to admit that out loud though.
She took small paces over to the chair to read the love letter from Legolas, to find it isn't addressed to anyone.
A million thoughts ran through her mind as she turned it over to reveal a red wax stamp featuring the number 58 and a small lettering of WC barely visibly beneath.
Taking a deep breath she fumbled over the wax and lifted the seal.

And then she passed out.
