The first thing Tauriel did after Legolas left was burn the letter. She found one of the cosy living rooms - located in one of the many hallways of the kingdom's castle - with a fire crackling along the far wall, the thick smoke was seen escaping through the chimney to curious eyes that belonged to someone Tauriel thought posed a threat. Although she could see no one through the window, she knew someone was watching. She shook it off as it was probably a guard on duty after Thorin's company had escaped. She closed the door as she watched the parchment become engulfed with flames, what she failed to observe was the open window that carried the scent of her secret to the onlooker who skillfully slid into the room without a sound.
