Roughly 10 minutes into the battle with the orcs Tauriel saw one of them notice that Kili was occupied, trying to help his brother it was like time was frozen to a still she was paralyzed by it, helpless she stood there and remembered what her mother had once said to her, ' "if you want to help people," she lifted Tauriels chin with her forefinger so their eyes would meet, "it will be the end of you." Tauriel's half-smile faded as she saw the meaning behind her mothers eyes.'

"KILI!" She screamed as he turned towards her and the arrow submerged itself in his thigh.

Legolas who was fighting a few metres away turned his head in time to see Tauriel run.

"Tauriel!" He yelled after her.

He cut down the orc he was against and took off after her.

She jumped over the stream in one long leap, whilst in mid-air she had knocked an arrow, as soon as her toes hit the ground she let it fly. Straight into an orc stomach. One after one she shot them down, until they retreated. Thorin's company had already continued floating down the stream, so Tauriel followed Legolas back into the shadows.

It took another day for the barrels to reach the end of the lake where they were collected to be refilled. But for hours before that moment arrived she knew they had to get away, Legolas and Tauriel couldn't stop them, something had to happen, something that required them to escape the two elves reach, so a mile or so before the end of the rushing river Tauriel did something she'd sworn she would never do, but it was the only way: she bought on a vision.
