Tam dropped from the window heavily, landing in a crouch and coughing from all the smoke he'd inhaled.
Damn Neverseen.
When he was sent with Fintan and Ruy to go on some 'important mission' he was not expecting it to be burning down the cabins of Tara.
But it's his fault this has happened.
How could he have been so stupid?
Why hadn't he thought to check for trackers in his clothing?
Tam had ripped several out of his clothes before he met Sophie for the first time, but somehow, he must've missed one and that one little mistake, led the Neverseen here.
And now they have Sophie.
Tam clenches his fists, closing his eyes to call upon the shadow flux he can feel swirling angrily around the ground underneath him. He can temporarily stun Fintan so Sophie can get away, but Fintan will know it was him. Tam was sure Fintan would do more to him then just burn him after this, but he didn't care.
Whatever they were planning, Tam could not let them succeed with it.
Right when Tam felt his conciseness start to wrap around the shadowflux, something heavy and rough barreled into him from his side, causing him and the whatever-it-was to crash onto the ground. Tam's concentration broke and he was slammed into his back, knocking the air from his lungs. Angrily, he opened his eyes to see who'd attacked him, not surprised at all to see Keefe's angry face above him, fist raised.
"You little-" Keefe didn't finish that thought, punching Tam instead.
"Back off!" Tam spat, kneeing Keefe in the back, but he didn't move.
"Where's Sophie?!" He growls.
Ugh. I hate this guy. So much
Tam grabs Keefe by the collar of his shirt, flipping him off him and getting to his feet, punching Keefe in the jaw for good measure. Keefe stumbles back a step, standing himself and glaring at Tam as if there were no tomorrow, wiping blood from his lip. Both boys watch each other warily for a moment, before Keefe breaks the silence,
"What have you done with Sophie!"
"Nothing!" Tam shouts to him over the sound of the burning cabin. He glances panickily to it, then crouches back down to the ground, pressing his palm against the ground.
Come on shadowflux... where are you.
The swirling angry shadows he'd felt previously before have now disappeared without a trace, only leaving behind thin strands proving that they'd been there before.
Shoot.
"You need to do something." He glances up to Keefe, wanting to grimace at his own words. Keefe glares down at him, fists clenching again.
Honestly...
"If you want to help her, you need to listen to me." Tam tell him and that seems to grab Keefe's attention. "I need you to distract the others. I can't risk being stopped. "
Keefe eyes him suspiciously, "What are you going to do."
Tam tilts his head towards the burning cabin, "I'm going back in there to get Sophie."
Keefe shakes his head, "There's no way in hell I'm trusting you."
Tam scowls, stalking up to him and shoving his hands into his pockets to keep himself from punching Keefe again. "Yes, you will, if you ever want to see Sophie again." He snarls, holding Keefe's icy glare.
Keefe leers, holding Tam's stare for a moment longer before stepping aside. "You have thirty minutes. If I don't see you or Sophie, I'm going in myself."
You'll get yourself killed, idiot.
But Tam refrains himself from saying so. If he's in there for more then thirty minutes.... more then ten more like it, he's good as dead.
Tam sprints past Keefe, who turns on his heel and runs to the others, hastily making a plan to go in and get Sophie. None of their eyes turn to him and no one comes to stop him. He doesn't know what Keefe did, but it worked.
Tam leaps into the air, using his levitating to pull himself into the burning cabin, wincing as jagged pieces of glass pieces the skin of his hands. He ignores the blood that drips off his fingers as he leap through the Everblaze, holding the collar of his shirt over his nose. He stops by a corner the fire hasn't touched yet, looking around the burning room for Fintan and Sophie, but he can't see them.
He begins to panic.
If Fintan took her to headquarters....
Sophie won't have a chance. She'll be turned into whatever monster Fintan wants her to be and she won't be able to do anything about it.
Tam refuses to let that happen.
If Sophie switched sides, there would be no stopping her.
Tam levitates up to the ceiling, coughing as he flies over the flames. His eyes water, making his vision blurry and making things a lot more difficult.
He begins to think they aren't here anymore, as the fire has consumed almost every part of the cabin until he hears a high-pitched screech.
Sophie.
And that's when he see's them.
Fintan holds Sophie tightly against him, one burning hand against her arm, the other reaching into his pockets. Tam can already see several burns starting to splotch Sophie's face, arms, neck, but she doesn't look like she's in pain. She thrashes and kicks against Fintan, whom somehow is able to hold her steady with just one hand.
Why hasn't she inflicted on him...
Tam's thought trails off when he sees the white ring wrapping around Fintan's head.
An inflicting blocker.
Of course.
Fintan pulls out whatever he was looking for, something so small Tam can't see what it is. He raises it, grins, then slaps is against Sophie's arm.
She tries not to scream at first, but then a gut-wrenching, bloodcurdling scream escapes her mouth and Tam winces, dipping down to grab her.
What did he just do?!
Sophie's knees buckle and Tam closes the distance between him and Fintan, crashing into him and sending them both plunging into flames.
