Ji Eun

"Hello, can I apply for a job?" I asked a lady who seemed to be the owner of the coffee shop. She looked strict and classy and she sent shivers down my spine but I tried to stay calm.

"What kind of job do you want, young lady?" The woman said with a smug face as she counted her money on the counter.

"Well, um...perhaps you could hire me as a cashier or a waitress. " I said enthusiastically but then she looked at me with fierce eyes. She walked towards me and I had to back away before she could step on my toes. She studied me carefully and suddenly, her eyes lit up in excitement.

"You came back! I've been waiting for you for a long time!" She squealed and pulled me into a bear-hug.

I pulled away and stared at her in confusion. "Do I know you, lady?"

I admit, her face really looks familiar but I don't remember her. Where did I see her?

I was startled when she let out a high-pitched laugh and looked at me with a welcoming face. "Dear, don't you remember me? I'm your aunt, Kim Sun Hee."

My mouth formed a frown. "I-Is this a scam? I don't remember you."

But then she laughed again and played with my hair. For some reason, she looked very adorable and cheerful. I wish she was my mom. I thought. Because if she was my mom, I would smile at her everyday.

"Ji Eun. You probably don't remember me. Besides, it's been 15 years since you came here in this cafè." She said and i laughed.

"15 years? Well, that explains. But why did you say you've been waiting for me? Didn't I see you again?" I asked and cocked my head, waiting for her answer.

Then she gazed outside the window, like she was reminiscing something from the past and then she said, "You first came here with your dad. Back in the days, he was still the owner of this cafè. He often brought you here and let you drink coffee." She giggled.

"I don't know what got into your dad to let his daughter try coffee in such a young age when you should've been drinking milk instead. But since you tasted coffee, you nagged your dad to come here everyday until one day, you never came back." She confessed and I got very embarrassed of myself as I slapped my face mentally.

"Did I really get addicted to coffee at a young age?" I laughed awkwardly. "No wonder I'm craving for coffee these past few years."

She tilted her head and raised her eyebrows at me. "Are you saying that you don't drink coffee anymore?"

"Um, well...yeah. You could say that. It's because my stepfather didn't love coffee as much as me and my mom does. So he banned any kinds of coffee in the household." I confessed but she let out a surprised gasp as she looked shocked.

"Your stepfather?" She asked in a shocked manner.

I nodded. "Yeah, my stepfather. My mom's new husband. I even have a bro--"

"Wait! I'm confused. What exactly happened?" Her eyes rounded even more as I told her my life story before my mom and dad divorced. After I finished, she hugged me tightly and rubbed my back to comfort me.

"Oh, Ji Eun. I'm so sorry you had to face a life like that." She pulled away and held my shoulders. "Now, tell me where do you live?"

I bit my lower lip. Should I tell her that I don't have a house? Should I also tell her that I'm not planning to find my dad? Oh, well, if that'll help then why not.

"Um..actually. I'm still looking for a house to live in and maybe you could help me find one?" I pleaded but she smiled at me and said,

"Oh, you could live with me if you want." She offered and my eyes lit up in happiness.

"Really?! Oh, thanks auntie!! You're the best!" I squealed as I jumped on her and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

"Oh, and one more thing." Aunt said and grabbed a card from her wallet. She handed it to me and my mouth opened in awe. "Here. Use this. You can buy anything you want with that, okay? That's my welcome gift for you."

I found myself hugging her again. "Oh, thank you auntie! I' really thankful for this! Thank you, thank you!!"

She ruffled your hair and pinched your cheeks.

"You could work here whenever you want too. It's yours anyway.
