Chapter 15
Caroline
I'm not 100% sure of who these two people think they are, but considering they've said they're not with the government and haven't locked chains around us, they seem pretty safe. The fact that they're against the government eases my fear a bit and to know they're sort of like us, feels more comforting. Rather than Naomi's freaky hair and her un-assuring words. The crappy stuff they tell you to let down your guard, then while you're hypnotized in their fakeness, they strike you down, attempting to kill you. It's for sure, not pleasant.
"Here, wear these," says Sawyer, handing us thin bracelets made of a shiny metal. I snap mine on and it makes a pinging noise.
"Magnets," he says.
Why on earth would we need magnets-
I'm answered by a roar overhead, a huge jet-like hovercraft. I see the Blondes raise their right hands with the metal bracelets and their bodies jolt upwards, sticking to the hovercraft. I turn and see Wyatt click on his bracelet and raise his right hand up.
Soon, I'm doing the same and my body lurches upward, my neck getting whiplash. As we hang from the edge I look down and my mind goes into panic mode. My legs trash in the air as I scream for Wyatt. My left hand hangs down as my right stays up, inches from the edge of hovercraft.
Suddenly, someone grabs me by my wrist and they pull me up with one swift and quick movement. I look up into Sienna's red eyes and make a weak smile. We're on the edge of the extended part of the hovercraft that leads to the interior where I see a bunch of duffel bags.
Wyatt grabs my hand and we run inside the hovercraft as it takes off with a speeding boost, throwing both me and Wyatt against one of the hard metal walls. Pain pounds in my head and my vision blurs. I grab my head and try blinking my eyes to readjust my sight, but it stays blurry and before I know it, the images around me become dark and I feel my mind drifting...
~
The sound of fingers snapping jolt my eyes open. I re-close them almost a millisecond after extreme and harsh light blinds my eyes. I feel the coolness around me, making goosebumps appear on my skin. This is definitely not still on the hovercraft. It can't possibly be.
Wyatt, I say, hoping my telepathy reaches him.
Of course I get no answer, but I was hoping he'd be nearby and could just shout out something for me to tell if he's there or not. Obviously he's not.
"Don't move."
My eyes dare to open again and I stare into Sawyer's eyes, his deep purple irises opened wide. At first, I think he's just being really weird and looming over me, looking at me. But then I feel the stinging pull just to the left of my right temple. I wince and my head moves, yanking the feeling even more.
"Lie still unless you want the stitches to burn you."
Burn me?
I don't ask any questions, I just lie still, closing my eyes to keep from blinding them. Sawyer's hands work quickly and I feel the stringing pain begin to decrease. I try to connect with Wyatt once more, but nothing happens. It's so hard, sending a mind message and not receiving any sort of reply in return.
Sawyer takes a pair of scissors and cuts it, I feel a singeing burn in my head and I open my mouth to scream, but he cups his hand over my mouth and tells me to keep quiet. A knock on the door sounds and Sawyer's quick to talk.
"Okay, when they come, answer every single question, and answer them truthfully."
He snaps his fingers as the person walks through the door. The woman's dark-as-night black hair fish braided neatly off to her left side. Her look, bold and striking. She's wearing a dark red jumpsuit that would remind me of the color of blood. Her teeth shine at me and I see her canines, sharpened at the points.
