Chapter 10

Wyatt

My legs feel like they could fall off any minute now, Amber makes sure I don't stop and she's not particularly nice about it.

"Come on! If you want to save your sister you have to keep going! No walking!" she yells kicking at my legs.

"Okay! I got it!" I say, trying to run as hard as I can.

I'm getting all sorts of messages from Caroline, I think she's trying to do something, I don't know what though. But all thanks to her, my hearing isn't as great as it was before she screamed, though I can't blame her, I would've screamed too.

"When are we going to be there?!" I ask breathing unevenly.

"We're really close, I guess if you really want to, we can walk."

I fall to the ground, breathing hard. She sighs and rolls her eyes at me. "Thank the heavens!" I yell, while attempting to get back to my feet.

We walk for the next thirty minutes until I see the flash of lights overhead. Amber grabs my arm and tells me to duck down, we hide around some bushes. That's when I see it, the secret lab. And despite it being 'secret' I think it's really bright and really big. Tall poles with large lights at the top, shine down on the lab. The lab is shaped like a circle, with armed guards all around the walls.

"Great, now what?" I ask, she turns and looks at me.

"We break in, duh. I think it's pretty obvious, are you stupid or something?"

"Well, you've been treating me like I am."

She seems annoyed with me, I guess that's one thing I do to people- annoy them. She urges me to follow her as we get closer. She doesn't say anything, but I'm pretty sure she has a plan, and she also doesn't care if I make it alive or not in that plan. Maybe I should take matters into my own hands from now on and leave her to find her friend, and me to find Caroline. She got me here, and I have not much use for her now, she means nothing to me.

"Now shut up and stay close, there's a door over there, if we can get in, we just have to find where my friend is, and you can find your sister on your own."

Those are the most instructions she's ever given me. I see her zip open a jacket she was wearing, which I never noticed until now, and takes out her satchel. It was with her the whole time.

Out of the satchel comes the silver knife, and a Spray, she tosses the Spray to me. "Your weapon."

"A Spray? And you get a knife? That's not fair at all," I say, sounding like a three-year-old toddler.

"It's not one of the Sprays you've seen so far, it's a death Spray, you spray someone with that and they're dead. It burns anything that is flammable, including skin and tissue, they would be nothing but bones."

"How much trouble did you go through to get that?"

"Let's just say I got my hands pretty dirty for it. Now come on, we're wasting time."

She leads us forward until I can see two guards guarding the door that we're supposed to go through. Amber moves closer until she's a step from being out in the open. She angrily moves her hand for me to keep up. I rush up to her, her fingers begin to count down from five.

We reach one and charge forward. I see one guard come up to me from the left, and another to the right. I use the Spray on one, but the other already has me in a headlock. I stomp down hard on his feet, but his boots are thick and there's no way he felt it. I can't breathe anymore so I have to think quickly. I focus hard and move his arms off of me. He is surprised and in shock, his lip quivering slightly. I smile and kick him in the knee. I hear a cracking sound and he falls to the ground, still and silent.
