That was close. She's still unconscious but she's breathing. We laid her down on my bed after we cleaned her wound. I'd gotten her some new clothes. Her body had more scars than I remembered. And now a new one added. I sigh as I sit down on a chair I pulled closer to my bed. I pull my legs up, my knees meeting my chest. I was so stressed when Leo found her. He got back a few minutes after we saved Ellie, carrying the guns of the men we killed. We followed them from the farm. Somehow I had the feeling something bad was going to happen. And it did. I couldn't have forgiven myself if she had died back there. Ellie groans, shifts in her bed and opens her eyes. "Hey."
"Hey." She pulls the blanket down exposing her upper body. She rolls up the shirt to look at the wound. "You got batter at that." She lightly touches the wound. "Yeah." I say dimly. Ellie looks up at me. "What is it? You saved me, right?" I can't answer. "I'm sorry." My eyes start welling up. "For what?" Ellie gets up and groans as she leans on her arm to keep herself up. "For leaving you, I don't know why I did that. I should never have left you there." I wipe away a tear. "You mean in the forest?" She takes my hand. Forcing myself, I look at her. She smiles at me, the same she gave me when she saw me again. When Barry stopped aiming at her friend. My lips start trembling. She pulls me up and into a hug. I close my eyes and wrap my arms around her chest. She pulls back and looks at me. I look at her eyes, then her nose and lastly her lips. I cup her face with one hand and trace her lips. She looks down shyly and smiles. When she looks up I can't stop myself and kiss her. She gasps but kisses me back. I pull myself on her lap and let my hands slide from her neck to her hips. She lays back and pulls me with her. Our bodies touch, Ellie's hand making their way to the end of my shirt. She pulls back from to kiss to look at me, asking me with her eyes if she can take it off. I nod and sit up so she can pull it off. She leans up to kiss me again, then pulling off her own shirt. She throws it off the bed and kisses my neck, to my chest and back to my lips. "I really missed you, Ellie." I tell her. She smiles and hugs me, so tight I can barely breathe. I chuckle and hug her back. "I missed you too." Ellie sits upright on the bed next to me. "I really did. And it might not look like it, because of Dina, but I did. The few weeks after you left, they, they were terrible. Dina was the one to catch me, to take care of me if I couldn't myself." I sit up too and take her hands in mine. "Ellie, you have no idea, how bad I felt. But I couldn't stay with you. You saw what happened. I almost killed you, on multiple occasions." Ellie freezes. "That's why you left? I thought you left because you didn't want me." I shake my head fiercely. "No! I loved you. What I said in that note, was true. That was really how I felt." I squeeze my eyes shut. The images of leaving Ellie behind flash before my eyes. I can't keep them away, they keep coming back. My eyes open to the touch of Ellie's hand on my knee. "But I don't care that I was in danger. I was in danger with YOU. I was with you and that was all that mattered. It didn't matter where, when or why, I was with you." I smile, my lips still trembling. She kisses me. "Y/N!" Someone knocks on the door hard. "What is it?" I get up and pull my shirt back on. Ellie takes hers off the floor and smiles as she puts it on. "Can I come in?" I look back and Ellie nods. "Sure." I pull the door open. Leo is breathing heavy in the opening.
"What is it?" Ellie asks while she gets up. Leo leans on the side of the door and looks up at me, his eyes darting around distressed. "Leo, what is it?" Ellie asks more slowly. She's standing next to me now. "Sam and Jordan went to look for Dina. They found a base not far from here." He takes a deep breath. "When they scouted the area, they saw her." Ellie's eyes go big and she freezes. "What base?" She asks, her voice breaking halfway through the sentence. "Jordan said he heard some people call it Washington Liberation Front." He lowers his voice. "Also called 'The Wolves'" Ellie doesn't move. I can't help but feel weird. Ellie is so worried about her, yet she was just kissing me on the bed. Not that I mind, of course I don't. But I can't help it. Ellie storms past me. "Wait, you're not strong enough!" I push past Leo and follow Ellie. First through the living room, then through the front door, only able to stop her in front of the barn. The redness of the massive, two-part gate looks way more impressive in the snow then it usually does. It's one of the only bright colours I can see. If this were a normal time, where we weren't constantly on high alert, Looking for infected or other people who wanted to kill us, it would've been a perfect place for pictures. All the red draws the attention to the old, almost broken planks. "Ellie, please, you can't go." I pull at her sleeve. She spins around, her feet breaking the perfectness of the thick layer of snow. "And do nothing? Just let her die like that?" She shakes her head. "I can't do that Y/N, I can't let her go like that." She falls to her knees. "I know." I really want to save Dina, But I can't help but think about what it would be like. To be with her, only her. I kneel down next to her. A knife is dangling from her belt. It's not the one we got her for her birthday. The blade is tinted red, probably by all the infected killed with it. "You have to let me go, Y/N." The snow around my knees is starting to melt. The fabric of my black jeans is soaked, freezing my legs. "Then let me go with you." I say getting up and offering her my hand. She takes it and I pull her up. "Let me take you," I say again.
