"Ellie, you're still not making any sense. Are you walking about the Thomas we met in that town, about a year ago?" I sit down next to her and take a deep breath to prepare myself. I'm about to tell her a story only one other person knows about. The story of David. I fold my hands together and look at my shoes. There's still blood on them. "This story I'm about to tell you, It's not fun to listen to." Y/N looks at my hands and notices how nervous I am. She takes my hand in hers and looks at me. "If you want me to listen, I will." I close my eyes, take a few deep breaths and look at Y/N. 

"Back when I was younger, I got kidnapped by an asshole named David. At first, he tried to reason with me, get me to his side. I didn't give in. He tried to kill me so he could use my body for meat." I start getting furious just by saying his name out loud. "But I got out, and fled to this restaurant in his town. He found me and tried to kill me again, But I got to him first. With a machete I found, I slashed down on him, again and again until Joel found me and pulled me off." Y/N rests her hand on my knee and looks at me. "Thank you, for telling me." I'm about to kiss Y/N when I hear a gunshot outside. I get up quickly and push open the door. Only far enough so I can look outside. Joel comes running outside and comes to out door. I open it for him. "They're here. You have to get out through the back. I'll distract them. And eave the horses." Y/N looks at me and I nod. We both make our way to our bags and swing them over our shoulders. Before we climb through the window, I walk back to Joel. I rest my hand on his shoulder. "Thank you." He nods back at me before I leave to climb through the window. 

Water splashed on my boots when I land outside. Y/N is already looking around the edge of the house to see if it's safe for us to leave. "It's safe." Y/n says. She's about to move when I pull her back. "I changed my mind. About killing them all." Y/N's face lights up. "Just Thomas. He ordered them to kill Dina. We kill Thomas, And I'm good." Y/N kisses my cheek before turning around. "let's go." Still crouched we make our way into the forest. If they were here, the town must not be far.

After a lot of crouching, tripping over roots and trying not to get spotted, we reach the town. It's quiet, It almost feels like everyone is out looking for us. "Are you ready?" I ask as I crouch up next to Y/N, resting my hand on her shoulder. "Ready as I'll ever be." With a smile on my face, I realise how happy I am. Back with Y/N, like she was never gone. Tears stain my eyes but I blink them away quickly. Let's do this. I nod one last time at Y/N, before I walk out of the bushes and to the side of the wall surrounding the town. Y/N follows after me not much later. As we tiptoe over to the gate, I see it's open. "What the fuck?" I mumble as I look through it. The town seems deserted, except for the house where the killed Dina. There's light coming from it. I step in carefully. The snow is gone, showing me dirt road overtaken by grass. The trees started getting leaves again. "There, at the end. Thomas must be in there." We make our way over to the house closest to us. We are just about to move to the next when suddenly, someone grabs Y/N from behind. She struggles against him, but before I can do anything  second person dooms up from behind the house. Y/N gives a quick hit to the first person before turning to me and telling, "Go! I'll manage." I stay with her but she tells me again. "Ellie, I'm fine! Trust me." I furrow my brow and before I turn around, I mouth: 'I love you'. Y/N smile and turns back just in time to dodge an incoming attack. 

As I'm running got the house at the end of the street, I notice the people that attacked Y/N didn't have guns. The group looking for us must've taken them all. A few more steps and I'm there. A few more steps and I might be able to take revenge. The door to the house is ajar, letting warm air out. I peak through and see Thomas. He is standing in front of a table, with someone else. On the table, there are maps and pictures. And next to him, a man. They are talking about something, but I can't hear it. Thomas nods and the man leaves. Now is my chance. 

I open the door and aim my pistol at him. "Ellie." He says without turning around. I can't keep my anger in. "You're dead!" I spit out through gritted teeth. "Now, now. No need to get violent." He places down the picture he was holding. I look at it. It's a picture of Dina, dead. My heart skips a beat. "You killed Dina!" I yell at him. "And you killed my brother!"He yells back just as loud and angry. I didn't expect that. He was so chill when I walked in. "He was all I had left, and then I hear he was killed by some 14 year old." He steps closer to me. "Do you know how that feels?" He raises his hand. "How it feels to lose the only person who truly understood you." A memory of Riley flashes before my eyes. "I do."
