***Caleb***

There wasn't anything I could do to stop the army from retreating, once they saw Octavia and Bellamy go down that was it, they had lost all hope of winning this war.

Like the rest of them, I was a coward and retreated, grabbing an injured soldier on the way, using his need for medical attention as an excuse for why I left the battlefield.

The truth?

I had been shot twice, lost a lot of blood and was close to the blast zone of one of the sonic booms that sent many flying to their deaths, I, however, was merely thrown against the side of a large rock. But the pain I felt in my body was nothing compared to my fear of dying without seeing her face one last time.

I had to get back to the wasteland where she was with Jackson waiting to help those who were wounded. With every step I took, there was a new pain in my body but I couldn't stop, I had to keep pushing so I could see her at least once and maybe she'll finally listen to me, maybe she'll understand my reasons for doing what I did.

It was nothing but chaos, so many were hurt, screaming in pain. Miller helped me set down the soldier I had been carrying and not realized had died on the way. Jackson quickly rushed over along with Harper and Monty.

"Miller, you were hit!" Harper pointed out, placing instant pressure on his wound and thankfully paying no attention to me.

I winced in pain, holding my side as I stood up from my kneeling position trying to back away from the group so they wouldn't see my injuries. Looking down, my hand was coated in a black liquid that had bled through my shirt and my heavy jacket. How stupid can I be? Anyone could see my blood and realize what I am.

"Caleb," Monty called out. I quickly placed my hand back on the bullet wound in my side. "Did you see Bellamy?"

"He's with Octavia. We got to go back and get them."

"Get them!? This is their fault!" Brell, one of the soldiers shouted as she knelt beside a body. "The enemy was waiting for us."

Miller was quick to defend, stepping at her with such anger. "Well maybe if you and the rest of the flame cult didn't turn tail--"

"Say that again!" she demanded, pulling out her sword ready to attack him.

"Enough!" I stepped between the two, hiding the pain as best as I could, as Jackson pulled Miller back.

"Were they alive?" Monty asked referring to Bellamy and Octavia.

I let my eyes fall to the ground ashamed I didn't stay with them. "I don't know, that's why we gotta go back." My voice was breathy as I could feel the energy leaving my body, but I had to keep fighting until I could see her.

"Then you go back alone," Brell's words were harsh as she explained, "no one else is dying to save Blodreina."

"Brell," I limped towards her, "we could still win." She shook her head, not believing a word I was saying as she turned away. "We can still win!" I repeated louder grabbing the attention of some bystanders. "We could still--win." Suddenly my vision went blurred and I felt myself fall backward, landing in the arms of Harper and Jackson.

"You were shot!" Jackson stated placing his hand on the bullet wound on my shoulder causing me to groan in pain. It took him a second before he realized the color of my blood and he was quiet for a moment before simply turning to Harper, "We have to get him something for the pain."

She responded, "We're all out."

"Of what?"

"Everything."

At that moment a call came through the radio in Monty's hand, Echo was asking for Bellamy which made me heart drop. I should have just stayed there with them to help.

"Monty... go take that," I ordered between groans of pain. He nodded, rushing to a nearby tent. Jackson with the help of Miller lifted me onto a makeshift table that had been sheltered from the sun by a tarp that hung overhead. "Ari. Where is she..." I trailed off.

Jackson looked up at Miller, not having an answer for me. "I haven't seen her since you left."

"That's because she came with us," Miller informed.

"What?!" I yelled sitting up, instantly regretting it as pain flooded my body. "She's still out there?" No, no this can't be happening. She was ordered to stay here by Bellamy so she would be safe. You have got to be kidding me. How could I not have seen her? "I have to go back." I tried to stand up but Jackson wouldn't let me.

"No, you have to stay here, you already lost enough blood and we obviously can't do a transfusion any time soon."

I let out a huff. "I have...to see her...one more time." Tears were starting to well in my eyes but I was quick to push them away, I don't cry. I haven't in almost seven years, I'm not gonna start now. Again I attempted to get up, only to be pushed back down by Jackson.

"Don't worry, Caleb, she'll make it back," Miller tried to comfort me but it was no use, "Ari's a badass alright we all know this, so are you, you just gotta hold on a little longer alright."

I laid my head back and stared up at the tarp that hung overhead, using every last bit of my energy to keep my eyes open. If I don't, Ari's never going to know that I never stopped loving her.

I told you all it was gonna be short. I hope you liked it, I did, which is surprising because I usually never like what I write. But what do you all think? Do you think Caleb is gonna make it? Will Ari and he get back together? Will the Cari ship finally sail once again!? So many questions, yet so little time.

Anyways, don't forget to comment, I love hearing what you all have to say.

Have a good day/night
