Genevieve stood by the window, all too aware of Matthew's gaze as she lifted the phone to her ear. "Hi Seth."

"Hey, I'm finished with patrol. Open your window." Genevieve didn't get to respond before the line went dead. She glanced behind her at Matthew before quickly opening her window, her heart beating nervously in her chest.

"Who was that?" Matthew's voice was tight, no longer soft as it was a moment ago.

"My boyfriend," Genevieve said. She took a step away from the window, wrapping her arms around herself. "Vampires aren't the only supernatural creatures in Forks."

"Oh, you mean the wolves." Matthew shrugged, "I smelled them when I got here. You're not telling me you're actually going out with one of those dogs?"

"Excuse me?" Genevieve scoffed, feeling incredibly defensive over the pack and her boyfriend.

"No offense, but it's not like he's your Coresurio. There's no reason to mingle with someone out of our species unless they're your mate, Genny." Matthew shrugged, his voice condescending as he spoke to her like she was a child.  He stood, taking a few steps closer to Genevieve. She hated the height he had over her, but refused to let him think it gave any advantage over her.

"Don't call me that." Genevieve narrowed her eyes, her cheeks warming in her frustration, "you have no idea what you're talking about. Especially with that species-ist mentality that you have. If that's how all the other Sirens are, I'm glad my mom kept me away from them."

"Listen-"

Matthew was cut off when there was a loud thump against the wall. The two turned towards the window, watching as Seth climbed into the room. Genevieve grinned, rushing into his arms. She wrapped her arms tightly around his neck, feeling overwhelmingly relieved that he was there.

"Hey babe," Seth greeted with a quick kiss. Genevieve stared at him for a second, taken back by the sudden use of the nickname.

"Uh, hi." Genevieve wrapped her arm around his waist, choosing to ignore it for now. She let herself calm down in his arms, the frustration still simmering under her skin as she turned her attention toward Matthew. "Seth this is Matthew. Matthew, this is Seth. Apparently, Matthew was sent by my grandmother from beyond the grave."

"Oh, so you're a Siren too?" Seth asked, keeping a firm arm around Genevieve. Genevieve glanced up at him quickly when she noticed the tenseness in his voice.

"Yeah, and you're a shifter." Matthew crossed his arms, holding his place a few step away from them.

Genevieve felt her stomach churn at the awkward tension in the room. She hated the way that Seth and Matthew glared at each other, obviously trying to size the other up.

"What brings you to Forks?" Seth finally asked.

"Genevieve," Matthew said simply. "Like she said: her grandmother sent me to help her."
