"Alice is throwing you a birthday party," Rosalie said as soon as Genevieve got into the car. Rosalie was driving Genevieve home from school, letting Bella and Edward have 'alone time'. Genevieve could see Bella watching from across the lot, leaning against Edward's car.
"Is that why she and Jasper weren't at school today?" Genevieve waved at Bella as she strapped on her seatbelt. The brunette waved back, giving her a small smile as she turned her attention back to Edward.
"Yes," Rosalie shook her head. "She's already convinced your mother to let you come tomorrow."
Genevieve pursed her lips, staring out the window as Rosalie drove through the town. Her birthday was on Saturday - two days away. Genevieve knew that she should've been excited about turning 16, but celebrating felt out of place in the midst of everything that was going on.
She will say that she was impressed Alice convinced her mother to be okay with letting Genevieve be in a house full of vampires.
"Is a party really necessary?" Genevieve sighed as she shook her head. "I mean, don't we have more important things to do?"
"Not as important as your birthday, Eve. You only turn 16 once," Rosalie pointed out. Genevieve could hear the sadness laced in Rosalie's words, feeling her heart ache for the vampire. She knew that Rosalie wanted nothing more than to move on with her life, but she'd never be able to. She was frozen at 18 for the rest of her existence. She was never going to grow up, she was never going to have children. She was always going to be a teenager.
Genevieve chose to say nothing, the two spending the rest of the short ride in silence. Genevieve sat up as they pulled up to her house, her heart skipping a beat.
Seth was sitting on her front porch, his hands tucked into the pocket of the sweatshirt he leant her the night of the bonfire.
"You never did tell me what happened after I left yesterday," Rosalie mused as she parked the car.
"A lady doesn't kiss and tell, Rose."
Rosalie snorted, her laugh reminding Genevieve of ringing bells.
"I knew it! Emmett owes me $20."
"You guys made a bet on me?" Genevieve gaped at the vampire, feeling her face flush. "That's so uncool." Genevieve unbuckled her seatbelt, flinging the door open as she climbed out of the car.
"I'll pick you up tomorrow after school for your party." Rosalie called before Genevieve closed the door.
Genevieve sighed as she shook her head, walking away from Rosalie's car.
Seth watched in amusement as Genevieve approached him, standing when she climbed the two stairs onto the front porch.
"Hey, Evie." Seth grinned, leaning in to place a gentle kiss on Genevieve's cheek.
