It's mine and Can's birthday, happy birthday to us!!!!!!!!

'You know what I mean Polen, it's not working. You deserve better, someone who loves you and wants to commit to you. I can't continue to disappoint you anymore. I don't know, I'm really not in a good place right now so I just think it's best part ways.'

It felt like ripping a band-aid, fast and effective. At least to him that how it felt. There was silence on the other line followed by beep. He was being selfish and cruel but he couldn't see another way out. He knew he wouldn't be able to move forward with Sanem if he hadn't done it, and she was more than worth it.

Deren stood in front of the mirror which was hanging in her bedroom. She wore a black strapless dress that hugged her figure tightly. Her hair was in a nice knot at the nape and her bangs were side swept. She looked different, less psychiatrist and more lively. She thought maybe that she was trying too hard. After debating with herself about changing a few times, she decided that she was overthinking it. She was only going out with some guy she had never met who her mother said would be perfect for her. This would be an excuse to wear her dress that she never wore since she bought it almost a year ago.

She hadn't gone on a date since her breakup with Metin. She wasn't too fond of them even before she and Metin got together, but since their breakup it felt like such a step back to start all over again. But she had to do it again, if not for her then for her mother. Her mother called her almost everyday to remind her that she wasn't married yet. Her traditional family couldn't fathom the thought of a woman being happy when she didn't have a husband. Most of the time she is able to ignore their pressure but her mother had called her in the morning to tell her about her friend's son who was coming into town today. He is a doctor, polite and handsome, her mother had said. The perfect ingredients for the perfect husband. When Deren began her usual speech for her reasons to refuse, her mother had started crying, begging her to not deny her grandchildren.

'When are you ever going to listen to your mother?.... This would be your gift to me for mother's day...' She alternated between scolding her and pleading with her until she finally accepted.

She fixed her make up and took one last look at herself before she headed out. She grabbed her purse and opened the door to find Sanem ready with her hand raised to ring the door bell.

'whoaa I'm sorry I thought this was Deren's apartment' She looked around in the hallway as if she was lost.

'Stop it!'

'You look stunning! Got a hot date?' She joked.

'I don't know about the hot part but yes' She blushed slightly embarrassed.

'Are you serious? I was joking... who's the lucky guy?' Sanem was suddenly curious about the identity of Deren's date since she hadn't heard about him before.

'You don't know him... I mean I don't know him either. He is this guy my mother set me up with so don't make a big deal out of it, ok? I'm only doing this because she cried and begged me to.'

'Well, he is going to lose it when he sees you. You look amazing.'

'Thank you!' She said shyly.

'Did you want to talk about something? Because I can totally cancel and we can just stay in and talk.' Sanem laughed at her.

'No way in hell I'm going to let you waste that dress. We can talk tomorrow... it can wait'

Deren nodded reluctantly.

'But I did want to apologize for being insensitive yesterday. I know he's your friend, I shouldn't have said all of that, I just got caught up with trying to make everyone believe I was good at what I do... I want you to know that I will do everything I can to make sure that we have the right guy.'
