Ember

Chapter 3: First Day in Hereford Base

(Ember PoV)

I woke up with Delta asleep at the bottom of my bed. I get up without waking her up and decided to have a shower. As I walked towards the bathroom a saw a note on top of my bags. "We managed to find your safehouse, we got your bags for you. -Eliza" Ok then, I grabbed a few cloths from there and my balaclava, I then walked into the bathroom and turned the shower on. I looked at the mirror quickly, took my helmet off then looked directly at my red eyes.

(Flashback)

It was another beating, I looked over to my team and they were going through the same pain, they wanted information, we weren't talking. They tried multiple "Truth" serums on us which all failed. The beating never stopped, once one got tired the other came in. it was on a rotation like that constantly. The beatings only stopped for someone if they were close to dying, because "what's the fun in having no screams when you torture someone", one of the white masks said that.

(End Flashback)

I was looking at my wrist, nice new red streams left them. And Delta was looking at me. "Sir, you need to stop that." She said, looking at me. "I can't help it Delta." I replied, "Daniel, you will stop that. You've got people here now, and you've got me." Delta explained, she may be an AI but she definitely has emotion ill tell you that. "Ill try Delta, Ill try. But please don't call me Daniel here, that person died a long time ago.

I jumped into the shower to wash away the blood. I cleaned up but Delta wouldn't leave the room. "I'm not going to commit suicide Delta; the White masks need to die first." I said, she seemed content with the answer and left the room. I turned the shower off and got dressed, put my armour on and my Helmet on. (balaclava underneath) I then moved over towards the Cafeteria. There was some great food here, but I only grabbed a couple of slices of pizza. I sat down by myself and Delta hopped up on the seat next to me. They a few people walked over to me.

"Hey, I'm Elena Bosak, or reaper. This is EWR-114 or Osiris." I looked up and took my helmet off. "I'm Ember." I said. I lifted up the bottom bit of my balaclava so I could eat. That's when I felt a presence behind me. Delta wasn't growling though, so not hostile.

"Hey person behind me, what do you want?" I asked, Eliza responded, "Are you ever going to take the masks off?" she asked, "No." I said. I finished my pizza slices and headed over to the gym, I might as well since I've literally got nothing to do.

I set up a punching bag and started leathering it. I hit it so much it we spewing sand everywhere. Anakin would hate me. And I'm glad I had my armour on or there would be blood on the bag. And walked over to the weights and changed it to 400 Lbs, I went on that for a bit. I then put it down and walked over towards the shooting range, I grabbed my R4-C and my RG-15 on my way over. I set up the targets and kept on shooting, I only used a clip in each, two taps in the body then one in the head, on each target I used.

Once that was finished the intercom buzzed to life. "Can All operators report to the meeting room and can operator Ember report to my office."

I slung my R4-C over my shoulder and holstered my RG-15 and walked over to Six's office, Delta followed me. I arrived at her office and she signalled me to follow her, she walked on stage and started announcing a new recruit. "Have you had your meds today sir?" Delta whispered. "No." I answered, "Why not?" she whispered, "I forgot." I answered, we were then called onto the stage.

"This is Operator Ember, our new member of the family. Treat him with respect or he will fight back. Any questions?" Six said, "What's the Dogs name?" someone asked, Delta responded. "I am Delta." The room looked shocked. I muted my helmet and spoke directly to Delta, "[I think you shocked them.]" I said, she nodded in response, I turned around and left the meeting room, I went to the workshop so I could work on Delta, her back left leg is starting to stick and one of her teeth broke when se bit into a gun.

"so your legs sticking Delta?" I asked, she nodded I pulled out my tools and started to inspect it. I found the problem. Part of it had broken, probably in a fire fight. Some parts will need to be replaced, I got up to find these parts, I managed to find them after a while. I moved back towards Delta and noticed someone talking to her. Two people actually, Eliza and some Korean Girl. I moved towards Deltas back leg and started taking it apart, I got the broken parts out and replaced them with the new ones, I then replaced her tooth.

"You should be good to go Delta, try to walk around now." I said, she jumped up and started walking, "Still sticking?" I asked, "No its fine Sir." Was the response I got. "Did you build her?" Eliza asked. Delta stepped in, "I was planned, built and coded by Daniel Cohen. I have upgrades from Ember which were Daniel's design." Eliza looked at me, then back at Delta. "You knew Daniel?"

"Shit."
