Ember

Chapter 9:

(Ember PoV)

We have injected the cure into the infected personnel, and they started getting better, Dokkaebi was almost a grunt. But we stopped it and she is making a recovery. Me and Doc tested my new "Powers" during breaks, I can apparently control most infected, I don't control Apex's and what ever the Apex spawns. But it means that I can stop most attacks, and I go on most missions since we don't get attacked unless there is an Apex.

The UN are proper scared of me though, I find it funny. Although we are pretty much done here, we just kill smashers and Apex's on sight, Rooters and Grunts get cured. Easy. I get to go back home and sleep for a month.

I am currently on mission, with Eliza and Ela. We are just walking and chilling. Until and Apex appears, it spawns two rooters, Easy. We manage to get the shots off on the Rooters, which they went down with screams but mean they are getting cured. And we just hammer the Apex till it dies. Which it does shortly after. We leave the Rooters where they are. We need to plant this device in this main hive. Once we do it can cure the entirety of Mexico. The rest are doing the same at the other Main Hives built.

We slowly move in being careful. Smashers notice us but don't bother attacking. They just stare at me. Which creeps us out but I'm sort of used it. I move them away from us, and we move deeper into the Hive. "This should be it, the central spire. This can distribute the cure around." Eliza said, she planted the device and we heard a very loud scream. I'm guessing there are many Apex's on the way.

We plant ourselves and get ready for the fight. We had to wait for the device to initialise itself and start the curing process. This initialization process takes 10 mins.

"Apex on the Right." I heard Eliza say, all three of start killing it. "Apex on the left" I shout, I turn around and start shooting that one, then the other two joined me after they killed the first one. Then that Apex falls. We stay on alert for anything to happen, then 3 apex's appear, we all took one each, My R4-C ran out of ammo so I had to pull out my RG-15. I was unloading into this apex when 3 smashers then appeared, the problem is I can't take control of these smashers.

"Smashers." I said, "Can't control them, Probably because we are attacking their Hive." They focused fire, I threw a smoke signal which told that we needed a strike, "[WE NEED A STRIKE ON THE SMOKE SIGNAL NOW.]" I screamed through the Comms, my RG-15 then ran out of ammo, we were all out of ammo. Then the air boys came in clutch and leathered the Horde that was coming to kill us. "[Jäger, we need an Exfil, we are done here.]" I said. "[Copy that Ember, the others are done too, I'll pick them up on my way over to you.]"He responded, "Ok then, we should be safe, the cure is taking out the higher level infected whilst curing the less infected individuals. We should be safe" I said to the group. We waited for the exfil to appear.

(Time skip, back at Hereford base.)

I just got off the Heli and decided to check up on Grace, Let Eliza do the debrief because I ain't about that life. I arrived in the infirmary and saw Doc looking after Grace, making sure her symptoms are gone. They were, I couldn't sense the infection her.

"She going to be Ok Doc?" I asked, "Yeah, she will be ok, I don't know when she is going to wake up." I nodded and sat down next to her bed, Doc left the room and I decided to get some sleep.

I got woken up by a light shake, I looked up and saw Grace and Eliza looking at me, Eliza trying to hold back a laughter. "Yeah yeah Eliza, laugh it up. I'll never forget the day I almost killed that bastard that was flirting with you." I said with a giggle, "Yeah he actually loved me but I didn't love him, if anything you did me a favour." She said with a smile.

"how you feeling Grace?" I asked, "Pretty good, I don't know what happened to me as I remember walking through Mexico and waking up here." She responded, "That was like a week ago." I said, "Eliza, go grab Doc for us." I said, she nodded and left.

"How long have you been by myside?" Grace asked, "Since yesterday, we only got back yesterday from Mexico, but we have managed to make a cure. Clearly because you are not a grunt." I said with a little laughter. "Why did you stay with me?" Grace asked, I could feel myself blush a little, glad I had my helmet on.

"I wanted too, I felt like it was my fault you got infected and I wanted to protect you." As I said this Delta barged into the room and pretty much tackled me. With a laughing Doc and Eliza behind her.

"Be careful, there is expensive equipment here." Doc said with a laugh. Delta just looked at him then got off me. "I'm so happy I made you light, or you would have killed me there and then." I said, she started wagging her tail. Grace and Eliza was laughing.

"Hey Ember, I've just had an idea. I'm going to see Mom in a couple of weeks, Hassen and Dad will be there, as well as a couple of other family members. You want to join?" She asked, I looked at her, "It's almost your birthday isn't it Eliza?" I responded, "Yeah sure why not, Want to come along grace?" I asked, She nodded, Eliza smiled, "Ill get some days off us then, also Ember. Try to be nice to Dad and Hassen." She said before leaving. "NO PROMISES CAN BE MADE." I shouted after her.
