Detective Shackett asked Roslyn if she wanted a cigarette. "I quit years ago" she barked, rolling her eyes.
"Is that why you are on edge?" Shackett said.
"It's annoying that you think I'm going to become on edge just because you imply I'm already on edge". Roslyn wasn't backing down. It didn't matter that they thought she killed him because she was certain they didn't have evidence of that.
Roslyn had been in the interrogation room for 2 hours now and she really thought she'd be home by now.
"Is this illegal?" Roslyn challenged.
"Is what illegal?" Detective James barged over Detective Shackett's attempt to respond.
"Interrogating me without a lawyer." Roslyn responded.
"We never said you couldn't get a lawyer, but working with us now is your best scenario here, girl" said Shackett attempting to soothe Roslyn into confession.
Roslyn first arrived at the police station 2 hours ago, at 8:15 a.m. She heard her Mom scream "Rosie! Rosie! I'm here baby!" from down the hall as they led her through the hallway at the police station. She couldn't see her Mom, just hear her. She'd never been arrested before. She didn't understand why her Mom was already at the station until Detective Shackett leaned towards Roslyn's ear and informed her, "Weenie freelance reporter Frankie Founder managed to Facebook Live are little scuffle this morning. Everyone knows."
Roslyn just breathed out a "fabulous" upon hearing that news as she was being led to a chair in front of the interrogation room. This must be the talk of the town right now, she thought. A successful Marketing Director getting arrested for murder is big news. Maybe she could capitalize on this when it's over, she thought. She didn't know then what she was in for.
There was video of the cops pulling Rosie out of her yellow brick tudor style house as she was walking out of the front door leaving for work, all over the internet by the time Roslyn sat in the police car. Her Mom always watches the morning news. This was too embarrassing.
Roslyn didn't know the cops were there at first, and managed to lock the door and even fumble with her purse, tote and lunch bag. She commuted to work and had a bag for lunch, an extra sweater and her yoga gear just in case she felt froggy. The cops shouted as Roslyn still faced the front door "Hands up!! Get down!!" all at once and you could tell by the video that she was shocked into stillness. She turned around without putting up her hands. An officer came at her, leaping in the air on top of her, from her left side and tackled her right then and there. Her body was all tensed up and took the blow pretty hard. You can hear Roslyn screaming "No!" as he launched himself towards her.
Roslyn didn't have time to think about the fact that her arrest was probably already a meme, circulating social media. She had this deep pit in her stomach. A weighted dread that made her tense up again, triggering pain from the tackle.
"jeesssshhhh" Roslyn let out and she tried to adjust her position in the chair right outside the interrogation room so her right side wasn't on it. Her right hip hit the cement pretty hard. Thankfully she was partially on the grass from the elbows up when she was tackled.
"Roslyn Sanders" a woman called out holding a thick folder towards the direction of Detective James who was standing off to the side of the intake window. Detective Shackett was standing directly in front of Roslyn, partially blocking her view of the right side of the station, where the hallway was, where she heard her Mom.
"Can my Mom come back here" Roslyn gently asked, feeling more comfortable with Shackett without Detective James around.
"Ha, no. How old are you?". Shakett shook her head at Roslyn. Roslyn at that moment had to fight back the tears. She forgot that they think she is a murderer, they have no empathy for her right now.
