When the Sorting Ceremony had finished, Dumbledore returned to the front of the Great Hall and stood behind the podium.

"Now we're all settled in and sorted, I'd like to make an announcement. This castle will not only be your home this year but home to some very special guests as well. You see Hogwarts has been chosen—"

A man running down the aisle interrupted Dumbledore's speech. He had a limp and looked rather fowl. Reaching the Headmaster, he whispered something in his ear and limped back down the aisle. Juniper had no idea who he was, but the other students seemed to recognize hum, so she assumed he worked at the school.

"So Hogwarts has been chosen to host a legendary event." He continued. "The Triwizard Tournament."

Juniper leaned forward in her seat and groaned, resting her elbows on the table. "Nothing good ever comes from things like this." She mumbled, earning a questioning look from Draco. She ignored him and continued to listen.

"From each school a single contestant is selected to compete. Now let me be clear, if chosen you stand alone. And trust me when I say these contests are not for the faint hearted,  but more of that later. For now, please join me in welcoming the lovely ladies of the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic and their headmistress Madame Maxime." Dumbledore announced, pointing everyone's attention to the large wooden doors at the back of the Great Hall.

The doors opened and a group of girls dressed in blue danced up the aisle, spinning and twirling gracefully, until they stopped and released butterflies into the air. Their very tall headmaster followed behind them. They bowed and received applause from everyone in the room, well, almost everyone.

"They look like pretentious brats." Juniper said to no one in particular, completely disinterested in the tournament. Draco sneered and nodded in agreement. But one Beauxbaton, an elegant and alluring blonde girl, caught Junes attention. She turned to Draco and smirked.

"Except her." She said, pointing towards the girl. "She's pretty."

The Malfoy boy smiled at the girl next to him. He wasn't sure what it was, but something made him feel like he could trust her, like he needed to be near her. His father had told him—no—warned him about her. He could still remember the exact words that sent chills down his spine and stopped him dead in his tracks.

"Don't underestimate her ability to turn you into ruins. She will shatter your soul into pieces, destroy your sanctuary, burn everything you know, and then bathe in the ashes."

But as he sat there now, next to this raven-haired girl with stars in her eyes, he couldn't see how such a girl could do anything wrong. She just looked so innocent and kind. How did his father know anything about her, anyway? He had asked him, but Lucius Malfoy refused to answer the question. And for once in his life, it wasn't due to pride, it was due to fear.

"What're you looking at?" She asked, snapping him out of his thoughts.

He hadn't realized he was staring and scrambled for an excuse. "Oh, uh," He cleared his throat, noticing her robes and the silver snake accessories she wore. How is she already wearing Slytherin robes?

"Your tie pin, and the ring." He pointed to them. "Are you a pureblood?"

Juniper furrowed her eyebrows at the question. What did that have to do with anything? "What?"

"The tie pin and ring, Slytherin is the only house that has them. They're passed down through pureblood families." He explained, showing her his own ring and tie-pin.

"Oh." She said, looking down at the ring on his finger and at her own. "Maybe, my mother comes from a pureblood family, except she was a Hufflepuff."
