We hear the door open up stairs and that's when Liam and I break apart from each other and scramble to our feet. After 30 minutes of making out on the floor, my parents decide to come home. I glance over at Liam who smirked at me and reached out a hand to ruffle my hair even more than it was before."Hey!" I complain, running my fingers through my thick tangled hair to make it look as if Liam's fingers haven't ran through them multiple times during our make out session. Liam quickly throws his army green flannel over his white tank and rolled up the sleeves.
"You wanna stay for dinner? Mom's making Chicken Fajitas," I say quietly, straightening out my shirt. Liam took my face into his hands while he stared into my eyes. He stayed like that for a while before answering.
"Who could pass up the offer of mom's fajitas?" he smiled and dropped his hands. I chuckle as we run up the stairs and into the kitchen where my mom had already started cooking. Liam is part of the family. He calls my parents mom and dad, he comes over for dinner almost everyday, and he talks to my parents more than I talk to them. Sometimes I would walk into the kitchen and see Liam and my parents having conversations at the table about serious stuff. When he had a problem, he would turn to them, not his dad.
My father is sitting at the table, glancing at his phone multiple times as if expecting something. My mother turns to us as soon as we enter the kitchen. Her smile lit up the whole house.
"Children! You're just in time, I'm making fajitas!" she acclaimed, waving a hand at the food on the counter that was currently being made. She had a wooden spoon in her hand and her curly brown hair was up in a messy bun. She wore her typical red lipstick and red apron that Liam and I got her for her birthday a few years back. My mother had delicate features, like Cassia. Light brown hair, rounder cheeks, long eyelashes, and hazel eyes with specs of green.
"Why don't you two sit at the table and talk to Marcus. He's tried out from work today, he needs a break," she suggested. Well when my mother suggest stuff, it's not really a suggestion it's more of a demand. Liam nods and takes a seat at the wooden table, next to my father. I send my mom a smile before doing the same, sitting across from Liam.
My father looked up from his phone and set it face down on the table. He ran a hand across his face but sent Liam a smile. My father doesn't smile at me though. Ever since Cassia's death, my father and I have became distant. He snapped when I told him that I knew about Cassia sneaking out to California. He blamed me for her death and he doesn't even try to hide it anymore.
"Liam, are you free to take a hunting trip with me next week? Some of my buddies will come with us but they're not as experienced as you are," my father starts. Liam ran a hand through his hair and bit his lip. I watched as he hesitated for only a second.
"I'll check with my dad." He answered. Liam and my father went hunting a lot. One time, they brought home a male deer and my father has the head of it down in the basement. While I hate the sight of it and the idea of killing animals, I love when Liam's eyes light up when he talks to me about the strategies of hunting.
Liam wasn't raised like most kids. He was taught how to shoot a gun at the age of 3. He had to learn to defend himself at home when his father would try to beat him unconscious. I tried to talk to Liam about his abusive father and how we have to tell someone but he won't let me. After everything his father has done to him, he still doesn't want to sell him out.
There have been multiple times that Liam has ended up in the hospital unconscious when he was younger. His father would tell the doctor that he fell down the stairs or tripped and bumped his head on the table. He claimed that he was a "clumsy" kid. Only I knew what was really happening at home. I wish I could do something about it. His father's a dick who deserves to rot in hell but whenever I bring it up to Liam, he shuts me down quickly.
