Valkyrie Demons

Chapter 12

I woke up feeling hungry as hell, but unfortunately not the normal hungry. How long ago did I feed as a vampire? I feel disgusted with myself so I decide not to wake up the boys. I quietly get up, dress and head into the woods. I try to catch small animals first. After a while of constantly scaring animals away, I realize I've forgotten how to hunt! I decide to sit down and find the vampire side of me. I close my eyes and take a deap breath before finding my darker side.   As soon as I tap into it, I feel my teeth elongate, I feel the redness bleed back into my eyes and the sudden coldness leaves me feeling strange.

When I open my eyes, all of my senses are heightened but I can't access my powers. It was a little disappointing but I soon got over it and started hunting.

"What the hell Valery! We've been worried sick trying to find you and this is what you've been doing! Eating defenseless animals. I thought you buried your vampire deep and didn't want to access it, I can't believe this." Dacian exclaims walking from side to side.

David just stares at me with a shocked expression and I think I see a little fear in his eyes. I didn't realize the vampire took over, but when I looked down at myself, all I could see was blood.

" I don't, what, I just..." I sigh and look down at the ground. "I'll see you guys back at the camp," I quickly run towards the stream before I have to look at the disappointment on Dacian's face again.

I reach the stream in record time, but when I saw myself in the water I fell over from fright. "What have I done?" I decide to take a bath rather than just washing my face.

I wade into the freezing cold water, scrubbing fiercely. After I'm clean, I swim around for a while trying to bury my vampire again. I can't seem to change back for some reason though.

"Now that looks like fun, mind if I join you?" I yelp and turn around to find... no one there.

"Who-who's there?"

"Now now, don't tell me you don't recognize your own mother's voice." Her laugh sounds like it's moving with the wind. I see a dark shadow move from tree to tree, coming closer and closer.

"I don't know my mother, she abandoned me when I was little." I turn in a circle, trying to follow the shadow.

"What a shame that was. Imagine what power you could've had by now. Oh how I do wish Dacian never escaped from my clutches... I mean ran away from home." She materializes in front of me, bending down to touch my cheek.

I immediately recognize her from a book I read while visiting the witches, about where the prophecy came from. She's indeed my mother, but also the only valkyrie turned evil. I try moving backwards into the water to get away from her touch.

"Dacian never knew you, he grew up with the guild?" I say getting more wary by the second. I realize she's not coming into the water so I move further away from her.

"Is that what he told you? Tsk, tsk, that boy never had the guts to tell the whole truth. Oh but my darling, why don't you come to me? We can rule the world together!" She moves up and down the bank trying to get closer to me.

I fold my arms in front of my chest." Why don't you come to me? And how did you find me?! "

" You let your darkside out. Big mistake on your part, every evil creature can sense you now. What a shame you can't change back!" She smiles wickedly holding up my little rose.

I grab at my hair frantically, but I can't find it. I'm starting to panic even more when I realize that's probably why I got hungry and can't change back.

" Where did you get that?! " I whisper.

"On your blanket. It must've fallen out when you slept. I went looking for you but found something much more valuable." She admires the rose and then... dissapears into thin air.

I scramble to get out of the stream, hurrying to get back to camp.

"She found me... took the rose.. dangerous ," I collapse onto the floor when I reach camp, trying to catch my breath.

"What do you mean 'she' and I thought the rose was in your hair? And why haven't you changed back?" Dacian looks at me with fury blazing in his eyes.

"Oh calm down will you, Valery... start from the top. What happened?" David gives Dacian a look and motions for me to speak.

I tell them exactly what happened and why I can't change back. They both look at me with worry in their eyes.

"Well, we'll have to figure this out later. In the meantime, we have to keep going. Maybe if we find Finn he can help?" David says while Dacian scowls at the mention of Finn.

"Let's go then. We can take turns on riding the elk. Valery you can go first."

We pack all of our stuff and tie it to the elk.We head in the direction of the magical forest. It took us another two days of nonstop walking to reach it.

"Wait, I have to tell you guys something before we go in, " David said suddenly. We stop and took a break while we had a chance.

Dacian got more irritated as we traveled and he hasn't said a word to me in a while. I'm a little worried about that, he's never irritated with me.

"Alright, what is it," I ask David.

"When we're in the forest, we can't stop. For anything. There's live vines snaking around on the ground ready to wrap it self around you. Oh, and be ready to get annoyed at each other. Someone put a spell around the forest a long time ago that enhances your emotions and you guys look ready to blow a fuse. "

" Great. Another magical thing out to get us. " I roll my eyes and get up to head into the forest.
