Valkyrie Demons

Chapter 14

I'm awake. Or... I think I am. Maybe I'm dreaming, but that can't be because I can still hear Dacian and David. Although, I can only hear pieces of what they're saying and my body refuses to move.

"What happe... Is she... Can you..."

"Oh, she's fi... sleeping spell...wake up... five minutes... back to normal..."

I don't recall losing consciousness again but the next thing I know my eyes pop open and I gasp for air. It feels like there's something heavy pressing down on my chest and my limbs feel like noodles.

" Dacian! " I yell." I'm going to kill you! " I slowly get to my feet, but fall to the ground again when a fire blazes through the tree I touched.

"What on earth?!" I stumble to my feet, trying to get away.

I see David running towards me, worry in his eyes. So I decide to stumble drunkenly towards him. Something's wrong, my coordination is very bad.

"Wow! Slow down before you fall face first into the ground or set something else on fire... either way slow down. " He grabs my arms to steady me and chuckles lightly to himself.

"Very funny. What happened?" I ask trying to walk in a straight line.

"No idea. The one moment you were taking a deap breath and the next you passed out. I see you have you're powers back! "

"Where's Dacian? I'm going to incinerate him with some fire." We reach the camp and he sits me down on a log.

"He went into hiding. Probably reached the castle by now." I glare st him through closed eyes. "Kidding, I'm kidding! He went to find food. Please calm down, you can kill him some other way. "

By the time it started getting dark, I finally feel beter. Some time after, Dacian comes waltzing into the camp like he did nothing wrong.

"I have a bone to pick with you mister." I stick my finger into his chest. Not very threatening considering he towers over me and I have to look up to him, but still.

"Go ahead, I'm listening." I can clearly see he's trying not to laugh but I've been practicing this speech since I calmed down.

"You have some nerve, putting me to sleep without me knowing it! Thank you by the way for changing me back, but that's not the point! I could've gone into a coma because I wasn't ready for my body to shut down. I could've died-" I puts a finger on my mouth and curls the other around my finger still touching his chest, while leaning closer to me.

" You're welcome. " He let's go and walks toward a pile of sticks where the fire should be.

" Ugh you're infuriating! " I plop down on the log again, pouting.

David falls to the ground laughing. Eventually, he stops laughing and makes dinner.

"Here you go princess. I hope it is to your liking." David hands me a makeshift plate of bark but can't contain his laugh.

The whole night was like this. Them making fun of me and me pouting the whole time. I finally decided that I've had enough and went to bed.

" Oh my little flower, you're so close. Just beyond the forest and you'll finally be mine.But you must hurry... there's a lot of strange creatures trying to capture you." I open my eyes to see Him crouching over me, stroking my cheek.

"Who are you?" I draw the word out, not sure I really want to know.

"I'm -"

I bolt upright, not sure what woke me up. My heart is racing, but I can't help thinking of the shear beauty of this mysterious stranger. I was beginning to fall back asleep when I heard it. Rustling in the bushes.

I shake Dacian and David, whom are sleeping on either side of me. "Wake up! There's something in the bushes." I whisper-shout.

Dacian immediately grabs his knife and jumps into a crouch. David follows a bit slower.

"Stay here with David. I'll go check it out." Davian says.

"Nah ah, you stay with her. I'll go." David tries to go past Dacian, but fails.

"Who's got the weapon?"

"Good point. Go ahead then." David motions for Dacian to move on and falls back to the ground.

Dacian moves closer and closer to the bushes. All the while being as quiet as a mouse. He waits a second and it seems like the whole forest has gone quiet. Then he jumps into the bushes and catches the thing by its... arm?

"Crystal?! What are you doing here and why are you creeping around in the bushes?" Dacian starts laughing putting the girl down.

She looks to be in her second decade... with long black hair, blue eyes, a cute little nose with freckles running across it and a very petite body.

" Welllll, you see. I was suppose to sneak up on the hybrid and put a tracking device inside her neck, but then I saw you and I panicked. I wondered if they gave me the wrong assignment or something." She kicks her heal into the ground looking down.

"I see, so what now?" Davian asks with a raised eyebrow. David and I admire the whole exchange from our place on the ground.

Crystal looks around until she spots me. Our eyes meet and I freeze. I know those eyes, they were staring into my soul just a few days ago!

" No no no, get her away! I'm not letting her near me!" I bring my knees up towards my chin and begin rocking myself.

"What on earth are you talking about Valery?" David says, patting my back.

I point a finger in her direction. "That girl is another product of our lovely mother."

"What!"
"Are you certain?"
"A product!"

All three of them yell at the same time.

"Of course I'm sure!" I snap. "Look at her eyes, can't you see the resemblance?"

Dacian turns towards her, but she tries to turn away. He grips her shoulders and stares into her eyes like he's searching her soul. He abruptly let's her go and stumbles back a little.

"How could I have missed it? It's so obvious." He rubs his hair and moves back towards us.

We all stare at her, while she stares at the ground. I decide to break the awkwardness. "What did you really come here to do?"

She sighs and sits down on the ground. "Mom came to visit me. I don't know why, it's not like she cared to visit for the past eighteen years. Anyways, she gave me this necklace and said she needed my help. She said that I had to find and kill Valery, my half sister."

My eyes lock onto the necklace she's playing with and realize it's mine!" You have my rose. "I whisper.

" Why in the deepest, darkest hell would you want to kill your own sister? " Dacian asks before she can answer.

" I didn't want to! How could you think such a horrible thing about me? You've known me my whole life. And by the way, this isn't yours. Mother gave it to me. "

" After she stole it from me! Give it back it doesn't belong to you!" I get up to go and get it from her neck myself.

" Oh, you want to fight sis. I have been looking forward to this day ever since I learned the prophecy was about you and not me! "
