The moonlight shone down onto your blanket covered body, you did your best to muffle your sobs into your pillow , not wanting to wake any of your Kakushi in the house. Lately it seemed like every mission went south, with almost no bright spots.

While any demons you were pursuing were dealt with, you couldn't bring back the lives that were taken. Last night was the last straw, not only did you fail to save one person, but you failed to save a whole village. The town was ravaged, the demon you fought seemed stronger than any other you've fought.. yet it wasn't even an upper moon.

How could you call yourself a pillar? Sure you couldn't save everyone but a whole damn village.

Abother sob raked through your body and you flipped onto your back, staring at the moon through your window.

To think right now even more people are dying and you're just sitting here, mourning over yourself like an incapable baby.

You finally managed to calm down but that didn't stop your mind from wandering to every negative thought possible. Your Crow now sat perched on your windowsill, it's head tilted at you.

Oh that's great, even an animal feels sorry for me.

"Important, important!" It suddenly squaked, nearly making you jump out of your skin. The crows high pitched voice piercing any thoughts you were having. "Shinazugawa Sanemi is returning home, Shinazugawa Sanemi is returning home!"

Fuck.

You flopped back down and pulled the blanket over your head, curling up into a ball. Now your boyfriend gets to see you in all your hysterical glory. You laid there in utter silence, dreading every second that went by knowing he'd be home soon.

Too wrapped up in your thoughts, you didn't notice the sound of your front door sliding open. The man himself huffing as he entered the house.

It wasn't unsual for you two to go a few days or weeks without seeing each other, however when you didn't write to him, he got nervous. Now he knew you weren't dead otherwise a crow would have sent that letter but what if you fell ill or were seriously injured?

He dropped his swords on some blankets near the front door and pulled his kimono off, hanging it on a hook.

Sanemi's feet dragged along the floor as he mad his way to your shared room. He dreaded the possibility of opening the door to nothing.

He paused when he thought he heard a noise coming from the bedroom. Now he was happy you were at least home.

Sanemi began making his way down the hall , just inches from your door when he heard the noise again.

Was that, sobbing?

Again the noise , this time a bit quieter.

As much as he wanted to throw the door open, it might startle you.

Quietly, he slid the door open, peaking in.

There you were, huddled under the blanket, twitching every once in a while.

"Y/n?" Sanemi knelt down beside you, placing a hand on the small of your back.

You jerked upwards, not even noticing his presence, let alone hearing him come into the house.

"Oh um," you quickly wiped your eyes , trying your best to make it not look like you wre crying. "Welcome home, I didn't hear you come in." You flashed him a smile.

He furrowed his brows together as you leaned in for a hug. Sanemi placed his hands on your shoulders, pushing you back. "Are you alright?"

"Yeah why, do I like bad?" You let out a light laugh, doing your best to sound not tired.

"You look upset by something, it's not good to hide that stuff you."

"Oh like you can lecture me on that."

"Fair enough." He shrugged but kept his grasp on you firm. "You know I'm here for you.. right? No matter how far apart we are, my ears are open."

You sighed an sat back onto your knees, placing your hands in your lap.

"I feel.. weak you know? All the pillars have their strengths and weaknesses despite how they look or act, yet I feel like pure flaws." A few strays tears slid down your cheeks and you brushed them away. "I let a whole villages die in front of me Nemi, an entire town! What kind of pillar has done that?"

"It wasn't your fault, you can't save everyone."

"I know damn well I can't, but you'd think I'd be able to help someone. Not to mention I've had deaths on the last three of my missions."

You sighed and looked to the floor, your face was flushed. Both from crying and embarrassment.

"I-"

"Spare your pity please."

Sanemi sat and stared at you for what felt like forever. He was lost for words, he didn't know how to handle the situation. Sure he could kill a demon no problem but how do you offer kind words to your girlfriend when she doesn't want it.

How do you help someone who doesn't want it?

An idea floated through Sanemi's head, it wasn't like him at all but it might be just what you need.

Tilting your head up, he cupped your face with his hands, then pressed his forehead against yours.

"What are you-"

"Shut up."

You sat there, staring at the boy who now had his head pressed against yours. His warmth radiating into your body.

You felt somewhat at peace. You wished you could thank him for his action, to tell him you were sorry for snapping at him, sorry for not being strong enough.

But instead you let out a sob, follwed by another, then another. Eventually you fell into a crying mess, Sanemi pulling you into his lap. His hands stroked through your hair but he said nothing.

Your hands gripped his uniform, head smooshed into his chest. Tears were going everywhere.

You tried to get words out, sentences out but you didn't know what to say.

Instead you let him hold you until you calmed down. The moon was still high in the night sky when you turned toward the window again.

You must have fallen asleep, now you were laying sown with your back to him, his hands wrapped around you. You turned to face your boyfriend, surprised to see Sanemi still awake.

"Aren't you tired?" You mumbled, your throat was sore and your voice was barely there.

"I didn't want to sleep knowing you might wake up and need to talk."

You huffed and blushed lightly, pulling the covers up to cover the bottom half of your face. Sanemi pulled you into him, placing his head ontop yours.

"We can talk anytime." After a bit of silence he spoke again. "I know neither of us are good at this stuff but we can always get better, together. "

"Did you spend all night rehearsing that one?" You raised an eyebrow at him, a smirk on your face.

He pulled on your cheek and turned over.

"Babe.. I'm sorry." You layed an arm around his stomach, trying not to giggle. "Thank you though, I know I'm not the easiest person whdn it comes to times like this but, I also know you'll be there for my voice of reason."

You rested your head on his back, closing your eyes to fall back asleep, not seeing the big smile and blush Sanemi had across his face.

When you both wake up he has so much to tell you.
