corlys watched rhaenyra and nesaemys as they cooed at silverwing and syrax.
he mentally scolded himself for being so cold to nesaemys, but she was married to the enemy, and carrying the enemies child.
rhaenyra believed her a viable asset to their struggle to take the throne.
nesaemys turned to see the mariner sitting, and wincing due to the bright rays of the sun.
she sauntered to him, rhaenyra paying no mind.
"lord corlys,"
she greeted cooly, narrowing her purple eyes upon him.
"hello, princess."
he responded thickly.
he felt queer, and qualm, to be communicating with her. the inkling of doubt vanished as quickly as it came, when he reminded himself that the notion would lead to him being scolded by rhaenys.
gods, corlys loved rhaenys.
nesaemys laughed softly, corners of her mouth turning up.
the scar on her face wound her lips into a tightness, and corlys found her much less intimidating while she smiled.
why do i find her intimidating?
corlys pondered, glancing off into the distance warily.
he watched as meleys took broad, long strides, tearing through the sky.
he smiled softly.
at least rhaenys was enjoying herself.
"if you'll excuse me,"
nesaemys said calmly, before approaching silverwing.
"i'm going to fly."
corlys nodded briefly, turning heel and advancing towards rhaenyra.
he watched as the argent, lustrous dragon took a leap before entering the sky, thin with clouds.
it's her dragon. and she's tall.
he concluded, distinguishing a soft gasp from rhaenyra at the sight of the two beautiful dragons soaring in the air.
for a fleeting moment, corlys witnessed meleys spurt flames upon silverwing's chest as the elder dragon flanked her.
rhaenys quickly brought the dragon down, fearing injury.
she slid off meleys back, her black hair matted and wispy.
the great red dragon entered the sky again, flying a different direction this time.
rhaenys furrowed her brow, studying the dragon, who was growing smaller the farther she flew.
"what was that about?"
rhaenyra asked, admiring her sister as the silver dragon turned to the direction of king's landing.
"she's leaving."
corlys inquired carefully, turning towards rhaenys.
she hummed in response.
"i'm not sure. meleys was ridden by queen alysanne's daughter. they're familiar with each other."
rhaenyra placed a hand on rhaenys shoulder, watching luce and joff play.
"the red queen was familiar with alysanne, not nesaemys."
rhaenys tightened her jaw, before beckoning the sea snake to follow her so the pair could retrieve meleys and return to driftmark.
