Chapter 1

It was early in the morning. The sun was just starting to rise from the horizon. Ethan slowly opened his eyes. Suddenly, his alarm clock rang, waking him up. He got out of bed with a groan and turned off his alarm clock. Then he went to the bathroom to prepare for the day. After taking a shower and brushing his teeth, he went into his kitchen to prepare breakfast. He put two slices of bread inside the toaster and began to cook some eggs. Soon as the toasts were done, he placed them on a plate along with the toasts.

He then ate his breakfast while watching the morning news.

Ethan: "Let's see what's going on today..." he said to himself.

While eating, he saw the headline of the news.

Ethan: "People disappearing without a trace huh?" he mumbled as he finished his food.

Once he did, he washed his plate and prepared to go to work.

He then left his apartment and went to his office. When he got there, he saw Bob, one of his co-workers, talking to the girl at the front desk.

Bob: "Cmon Sophie, I know your free this evening. Why don't you join me and my friends drinking? I know you want to."

Sophie: "Hard pass. And please stop talking to me. I have work to do."

She then saw Ethan walking past them towards the elevator.

Sophie: "Hey Ethan, can you get rid of this guy for me?"

Ethan: "Why? What's wrong?"

Bob: "Hey Ethan! Stop interfering with other people's business! You weeb."

Sophie: "Hey! Stop calling him that!"

Bob: "What?! Why are you defending him?"

Sophie: "Because he's not an annoying prick like you. Now, if you keep disturbing me, I'll file a report to the boss."

Bob: "Fine. Have it your way." He then walked to the elevator and went to his floor.

Ethan: "Are you alright?"

Sophie: "Yeah, I'm fine. I swear, that bastard is really annoying."

Ethan: "Alright then, I'm gonna go to my office. See you later."

Sophie: "Yeah, see ya."

Ethan then headed towards the elevator and went to his floor. He works on the third floor, one floor lower than Bob. Even so, there were still many of his co-workers that made fun of him. After reaching his floor, he went to his desk and started to work.

While he was working, he got a notification from his phone. His shipgirls were done with their sortie. You see, Ethan does like anime. He even plays a game called Azur Lane on his phone. He just downloaded it the other day and he's been playing nonstop.

I'll check on them later. I wouldn't want to be seen playing a game like this here. Ethan thought to himself. A few hours passed and he was starting to get hungry. He took out a lunch box from his bag and opened it. Inside it was a sandwich he prepared before he went for work. Just as he was about to eat, he felt someone touch his shoulder. He turned around and saw Phill, one of his co-workers.

Phill: "Hey Ethan, wanna join me for lunch?" he asked while holding a bag of food.

Ethan: "Sure."

They then went to the cafeteria to eat lunch. On their way there, Phill asked a question to Ethan.

Phill: "Hey Ethan, why do you still like to watch anime when you know people will make fun of you for it?"

Ethan: "Well... Its because anime was a big part of my life. When both of my parents died, I was extremely devastated. Anime was one of the things that made the sadness go away."

Phill: "I see..."

They then reached the cafeteria. After setting foot into the room, everyone stared at them with confused expressions. They began whispering to each other.

"What is Ethan doing here? He never comes to the cafeteria to eat." a random guy whispered. Phill and Ethan ignored them and sat down at a table.

Ethan: "Uhh, are you sure it's okay for me to eat here?"

Phill: "Of course. Don't mind them. They're just shocked to see you here."

Ethan: "I see..." he said as he opened his lunchbox.

After finishing lunch, Ethan returned to his desk to file in a report to the boss. He knocked on his door and waited for a response, but no answer. He decided to enter the room. He opened the doors and saw his boss sleeping on his desk. He quietly placed the documents on his desk, but just as he was about to exit the room, his boss woke up.

Boss: "Ugh... What happened?"

Ethan: "Uhh sir, are you alright?"

Boss: "Yes, I'm fine..."

Ethan: "OK then. I placed the documents you asked for on your desk."

Boss: "OK. Thank you, Ethan. What time is it?"

Ethan: "It's 6 pm, sir."

Boss: "You haven't gone home yet?"

Ethan: "I'm just about to sir."

Boss: "Alright. Oh, and Ethan, watch yourself. People have been mysteriously disappearing lately."

Ethan: "I will sir."

Ethan then picked up his bag and went home. After arriving there, he quickly locked his front door, sat on his couch, and opened his phone. Finally, I can rest and play Azur Lane again. he thought as he launched the app. He saw the usual loading screen he saw a few days ago, but something was wrong. It was taking too long to start up. Suddenly, his phone screen went black.

Ethan: "What?! What's wrong with my phone?"

Suddenly, the screen lit up and showed a question to him

Ethan:" 'Commander, are you ready?' Ready for what?"

Without thinking twice he pressed the 'yes' button. His phone then suddenly emitted huge amounts of electricity that zapped him. He was shocked. Not only did the electricity didn't hurt him, but it was also turning his whole body into an energy of some kind. His whole body started to get sucked into his phone. What's going on?! What's happening to me?! he thought as he entered his phone.
