Chapter 14

Hey guys/ girls. Before we begin this chapter, I'd just like to say thank you for all of your support, even with the late updates. I'm truly sorry if my update speed is has caused any inconvenience. Anyway, let's get into this chapter.

It was morning at the base. Ethan just woke up and he started to prepare for the day. He went inside the bathroom to take a shower and brush his teeth. After that, he opened his closet and took out a clean uniform. After putting it on, he grabbed his commander's hat and placed it on his head but not before tidying his hair.

He was just about to head out of his room when someone knocked on the door. He quickly opened it and saw that it was Eugen.

Ethan: "Hey Eugen. What are you doing here?"

Eugen: "Hello commander. I wanted to ask if you are free this afternoon."

Ethan: "Actually, I am."

Eugen: "Really?! Then, would you like to get some lunch with me later?"

Ethan: "Sure. Why not."

Eugen: "Alright then. Let's meet up at the fountain near the central plaza around noon."

Ethan: "Sounds good."

Ethan then looked at his watch and saw that he was running late.

Ethan: "Shoot! I'm late. Alright Eugen, I'll see you later." he said as he ran off.

At the office...

Enterprise already arrived at the office and was preparing for the day. As she was, she noticed that it was almost 9 o'clock.

Enterprise: "Where is he?" she asked herself.

Then, as she was about to begin working, Ethan arrived.

Enterprise: "Commander, where have you been?!"

Ethan: "Sorry Enterprise. I woke up a little too late." he said while out of breath.

Enterprise: "Well, I guess it's fine but try to be on time tomorrow."

Ethan: "Will do."

They then began to work. As they were working, Ethan's stomach was growling because he hasn't had breakfast yet.

Enterprise: "Commander, are you hungry?" she asked

Ethan: "Yeah. I didn't get a chance to eat this morning."

Enterprise: "Do you want me to get something for you?"

Ethan: "Yeah, sure. I can't concentrate on an empty stomach."

Enterprise: *giggle* "Okay commander."

A few minutes later, Enterprise came back with a plate of pancakes.

Enterprise: "Here you go, commander." she said as she placed it on Ethan's desk.

Ethan: "Thanks Enterprise."

Enterprise: "Sure thing commander."

Ethan then ate his breakfast. As he was eating, he noticed that his drawer was slightly opened. When he tried to close it, he saw a letter inside and he took it out of the drawer.

(Ethan's POV)

What's this? Some sort of letter? he thought to himself. He placed the letter on his desk to read later. After eating, Ethan continued with his work.

A few hours later...

It was almost noon and Ethan was almost done with the paperwork and was getting ready to meet up with Eugen. He then got up from his desk and opened the door.

Enterprise: "Commander, where are you going?"

Ethan: "I'm going to meet up with someone."

Ethan then left the room.

(Enterprise's POV)

Where is he going? Maybe he's meeting up with a friend. Enterprise thought to herself and continued working but just as she was about to, her stomach growled. Ahaha... I guess I should get some lunch first. she thought to herself and went to the cafeteria.

At the cafeteria...

Enterprise was just about to go into the dining hall when she noticed a group of people hiding behind the edge of the wall and one of them was Cleveland.

Enterprise: "Uhh, Cleveland, what are you doing?"

Cleveland: "Enterprise, come look at this." she said as she gestured to the dining hall.

With a confused expression, she did what Cleveland said and was shocked at what she saw.

Cleveland: "What is the commander doing?! Why is he with Eugen? He usually goes out for lunch with you, right Enterprise?"

Enterprise: "M-maybe he has some business with her.

Hornet: "Sure doesn't look like it."

Javelin: "Shh! I can't hear what they're saying."

Enterprise decided to eat outside so she could avoid all the commotion.

Enterprise: "Ha. Why are they making a big deal out of it? They're just having lunch together. But why do I feel uneasy looking at them..." she said as she ate her lunch.

She decided to just ignore it so after eating her lunch, she went to the firing range to release some stress.

A few hours later...

After she felt a little better, she went back to the office. As she was walking there, she saw a big crowd near the announcement board. She decided to see what was happening.

Enterprise: "Uh, excuse me, what is going on here?" she asked one of the people near there.

Staff: "There was a new announcement from HQ. It says that the commander's secretary will be switched weekly. They say that with this, more shipgirls will be able to get some working experience outside of the battlefield."

Enterprise: "What?!" she said in disbelief.

She quickly went back to the office to speak with Ethan. When she got there, she saw Ethan sitting on his desk.

Ethan: "Enterprise..."

Enterprise: "Commander, is it true that the secretary position will be changed?"

Ethan: "I see that you saw the announcement. Unfortunately, yes."

Enterprise: "I see..."

Ethan: "I'm sorry Enterprise. I tried to convince the higher-ups but they wouldn't listen."

Enterprise: "It's okay commander." she said looking a bit down.

Ethan: "I know, why don't we go out for dinner together. It's the least I could do for all that you've done for me."

Enterprise: "Yeah. That sounds good."

The two then went to the central plaza. After having dinner, Ethan walked with Enterprise around the base, having some small talk along the way. They then reached the girl's dorm.

Enterprise: "So, I guess this is it."

Ethan: "Yeah. Again, thank you for all that you've done for me."

Enterprise: "Don't worry commander. I'm happy I got to be your secretary."

Ethan: "Okay. Then, I'll see you later."

Ethan then left the girl's dorm. In her room, Enterprise layed on her bed, thinking of all the times she had with Ethan. Then, she noticed that her vision was getting blurry. She then realized that tears were forming in her eyes.

Enterprise: "Huh? Why am I crying?" she said to herself. She then quickly wiped her tears away and went to sleep.
