Chapter 8:

I woke in the the same room as the last time, on the same bed that I'd never thought I'd see again.

I wanted to cry, not only from extortion, disappointment in myself for giving into something that I always found disgusting, but also because I finally had a home.

It wasn't much, but I knew it was home now.

Before I could try to sit up, the door opened after a knock.

"Can I come in?" A boy asked, with his short hair peeping from the door.

I tried to answer, but the pain in my throat forbid it.

When no answer was, but a gruff squeak was heard, the boy peaked into the room, and smiled when he saw me awake.

"Finally awake, sleeping beauty?" He rolled in a little trolley. ""Mr Santos asked me to bring this for you, it's a milkshake. I'm Jasper."

Slowly, jasper helped me up and my body felt as if my bones were made from the compressed ashes of hell.

I've been through worse, having to deal with sickness when there was no option of a doctor. Going through puberty with nothing but Riley at my side, yet this. This pain that rattles my bones, seemed to be by far the worst.

But my botton lip hard enough to draw blood, but it suppressed the screams wailing to break through.

I head a static buzz before Jasper could start speaking, "i léaina eínai xýpnia, kýrie." (The lioness is awake, sir)

"Téleios." Soren spoke.

Jasper held a hand as a support to my back while bringing the cold straw to my lips.

It felt forgin, the taste of dairy in my mouth. It's thick texture struggled passing my inflamed throat, and lead to another fit of coughs.

Jasper patted my back while muttering soothing words till I calmed down.

I tried again, and this time the thick liquid passed though, with only an uncomfortable burn.

Jasper explained that I was out for two days straight, and that I'd almost stilled into a temporary accoma due to lack of oxygen and excessive blood loss.

He then also explained how he too was a child of the streets. He was born into the streets and thought that he would die there, until Erebus came in, and offered him a home.

Jasper explained how he owes his life to Erebus, as it was him who gave it to him. And I was too tired to decide if he was trying to manipulate me or not.

I long to get clean, to rid of the dirt between my nails and the dry blood brin my hair. But I had no energy. I was completely and utterly drained. Not once during this conversation did I speak.

I was a mess.

"You're awake." Soren and Erebus walked in together, each one carrying a packet.

I nodded at his rhetorical question, and tried to sit up on my own sothat I don't appear weak.

"Wecome home, léaina." Soren beamed. For once in all our encounters, this is by far the nicest I've seen him.

Erebus nodded in agreement. He looked tired, yet relieved.

I didn't know how to respond, I was being welcomed into a phase of my life that I was forced into. Yet, wasn't that the same as every other aspect of my life?

I never chose to leave my mother, I never asked to live on the streets, I never washed for Riley to be taken away from me, yet here I am.

"E and I got these as a welcoming gift for you. It's not much, but it's just to get you started. "

"After some time, you'll be able to fend for yourself." Erebus added.

Fend for myself? I'll be able to fend for myself?

What does this man think I've been doing all my life?

Jasper took the bags from their hand, and said out it's contents for me.

Shampoos to sleepwear, anything that I may need to make myself feel... normal was here.

I wanted to tear up from the gesture, but tears were weakness.

So instead I let out a whispered thank you.

"You must be tired, kýrie may I call one of the females to help her settle in?" I noticed how Jasper bowed his head as he spoke.

Erebus nodded, as Soren began questioning me about my health. I tried using my voice now, answering with a simple yes's and no's.

"Lacey, as you understand that by accepting the offer, you're pledging your loyalty to not only me but the whole oikogéneia, the family. "

I nodded.

"Good, so now you need to show them that. "

I would have made the chapter longer, but I'm writing biology tomorrow and I'm kinda freaking out. I might update a little earlier because I had meant to add in the initation in this chapter.

But next update at 300 reads.

Okay, and I have to ask, is the book okay so far?

Till next time:
